Anaplastic astrocytoma (AA) is a malignant carcinoma whose pathogenesis remains to be fully elucidated. System biology techniques have been widely used to clarify the mechanism of diseases from a systematic perspective. The present study aimed to explore the pathogenesis and novel potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of AA according to metabolic differences. ⋯ In total, 24 differentiated metabolites and 5 metabolic pathways, including sphingolipid, glycerophospholipid, caffeine, linoleic acid, and porphyrin metabolism, were identified based on the OPLS-DA model. 3-Methylxanthine, sphinganine, LysoPC(18:1), and lactosylceramide were recognized as potential biomarkers with excellent sensitivity and specificity (area under the curve > 98%). These findings indicate that the perturbed metabolic pattern related to immune regulation and cellular signal transduction is associated with the pathogenesis of AA. 3-Methylxanthine, sphinganine, LysoPC(18:1), and lactosylceramide could be used as biomarkers of AA in future clinical practice. This study provides a therapeutic basis for further studies on the mechanism and precise clinical diagnosis of AA.

The tumor immune microenvironment is of crucial importance in cancer progression and anticancer immune responses. Thus, systematic exploration of the expression landscape and prognostic significance of immune-related genes (IRGs) to assist in the prognosis of colon cancer is valuable and significant. The transcriptomic data of 470 colon cancer patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database and the differentially expressed genes were analyzed. ⋯ The validation results illustrated that this model could act as an independent indicator to moderately separate colon cancer patients into low- and high-risk groups. This study ascertained the prognostic significance of IRGs in colon cancer and successfully constructed an IRG-based prognostic signature for clinical prediction. Our results provide promising insight for the exploration of diagnostic markers and immunotherapeutic targets in colon cancer.

We modified the blind Seldinger technique by incorporating ultrasound guidance and the use of a multifunctional bladder paracentesis trocar for PD catheter (PDC) placement, which can be easily performed by a nephrologist and is a feasible technique. To compare success rates and safety of our modified percutaneous PD catheter placement technique to open surgery. ⋯ Percutaneous placement of PD catheters using our modified technique demonstrates superior success rates and safety compared to open surgery. In addition, our modified technique can be a better alternative to traditional Seldinger percutaneous catheterization for its higher success rate and safety, more accurate positioning.

Nevus sebaceous (NS) is a common congenital hamartoma of the skin composed predominantly of sebaceous glands. Although most NS are benign skin tumors, malignant transformations have been reported. There is still controversy about the lifetime risk of malignant degeneration and precise surgical criteria. ⋯ Two cases had histological findings that showed a miss-match between punch biopsy and excisional biopsy results. No recurrence was detected 2 years after surgeries in any patients. Cases after third stage, especially in over 40 years who report morphologic changes, should undergo total surgical excision as the first approach, with strong suspicion of malignant degeneration.

Effect of endoscopic resection of gastrointestinal stromal tumors in the stomach under double-channel gastroscopy: A retrospective observational study.
We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of endoscopic resection for the treatment of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) under single-channel gastroscopy and double-channel gastroscopy. We identified 154 patients with GISTs of the stomach who underwent endoscopic resection and were retrospectively analyzed at our hospital between May 2016 and March 2020, including 49 patients by single-channel gastroscopy and 105 patients by double-channel gastroscopy. We observed the clinical efficacy, complications, and safety of endoscopic resection of gastric GISTs, and the data were evaluated retrospectively. ⋯ No residual or recurrent lesions were discovered in any patients by gastroscopy reexamination. Both single-channel gastroscopy and double-channel gastroscopy can provide safe, effective, feasible endoscopic resection. However, double-channel gastroscopy has some distinct advantages in endoscopic resection.
