Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has become increasingly prevalent among young adults. Risk perception is believed to be an important determinant of preventive health behaviors; however, young adults remain unaware of the benefits. The current study aimed to examine Malaysian public university students' perceived risk of developing T2DM and its predictors. ⋯ Students who self-rated themselves as practising healthy lifestyles and actively seeking health information perceived a low risk of developing diabetes in the future.. The findings indicate that students perceived their risk as low even though they have the risk. This creates an urgent need to emphasize the necessity of diabetes prevention education, especially on socio-behavioral factors, to address the widespread misunderstandings among university students regarding diabetes risk factors to reduce diabetes incidence.

The mechanism of allergic rhinitis (AR) remains unclear. Most researchers believe that AR is the result of a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is a treatment that can change the natural course of AR through immunomodulatory mechanism and maintain efficacy after the treatment. ⋯ The Simpson index of AR group was significantly higher than that of CG and SLIT groups, but not different between SLIT group and CG group. The abundance of Bacteroidete and Firmicutes remarkably increased in the AR group, but Bacteroidete reduced to CG level after SLIT. AR patients have different nasal microbiome composition, but we do not know how it happened and whether the AR condition affected nasal microbiome composition or nasal microbiome affected AR.

Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related pericardial effusion/cardiac tamponade is a rare but fatal complication which cause a high mortality if not timely diagnosed and treated. However, the atypical manifestations and the rapid deterioration present challenges for neonatologists, and there has been limited investigation reported globally to date. Furthermore, a systematic review and comprehensive summary of clinical management are lacking. The significance of this article lies in emphasizing the importance of maintaining vigilance in high-risk neonates and implementing effective management strategies for PICC-related pericardial effusion/cardiac tamponade, thereby contributing to saving more lives. ⋯ Once sudden hemodynamic or respiratory abnormalities are detected in neonates with PICC placement, particularly in the preterm infants, prompt diagnosis by cardiac ultrasound is required to verify pericardial effusion/cardiac tamponade and immediate pericardiocentesis or pericardiotomy is necessary to improve survival.

Although the use of colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for colorectal lesions has increased, there is a lack of analysis of the recent usage trends of ESD. Thus, this study aimed to identify changes in the annual utilization of ESD and determine the proportion of surgeries after ESD according to hospital types. Using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data from 2012 to 2019, 26,502 colorectal ESD cases were analyzed to assess the annual usage trends of ESD according to hospital type, additional early and late surgeries after ESD, changes in the distribution of colorectal lesions, and factors associated with early and late surgery. ⋯ In tertiary and general hospitals, the proportion of submucosal cancers decreased, whereas the proportion of intramucosal cancers increased. Submucosal cancer was associated with early (odds ratio: 108.90, 95% confidence interval: 61.67-192.35) and late surgery (odds ratio: 3.55, 95% confidence interval: 2.27-5.56). Using nationwide data, our study identified the clinical usage trends of colorectal ESD based on the annual increase in utilization and the proportion of additional surgeries after ESD.

A good understanding of the possible risk factors for coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) severity could help clinicians in identifying patients who need prioritized treatment to prevent disease progression and adverse outcomes. COVID-19-linked coagulopathy is one of the life-threatening severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infections. Growing evidence indicates a correlation between abnormal coagulation and increased risk of venous thromboembolism; in COVID-19-infected patients, yet a clear understanding of the role of coagulopathy in the severity of COVID-19 illness is still unresolved. ⋯ Other complications were pulmonary embolism in 21.05% and venous thromboembolism in 15.7% of non-survivors. A significant association was found between increased markers of coagulopathy and the severity of SARS-CoV2 infection. Furthermore, the severity of infection was observed to increase with risk factors such as age, heart disease, hypertension, and DM eventually affecting COVID-19 prognosis and mortality.
