The aim of this study is to investigate the differences on admission troponin values among gender in hospital outcomes and in the 2-year follow-up period in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients. Data of 826 patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 disease were analyzed retrospectively. All patients had nasal and oropharyngeal swab samples taken according to Ministry of Health guidelines on admission. ⋯ We observed that in COVID-19 disease, troponin value differs by gender. A lesser increase in troponin levels in men was indicative of cardiac injury. Even slight increases in troponin levels in men should alert clinicians for cardiac injury and other clinical events.

Effects of hip brace on coxa valga in nonambulatory children with cerebral palsy: A randomized controlled trial.
Coxa valga, measured as the neck-shaft angle (NSA) or head-shaft angle (HSA), is regarded as a potential risk factor for hip dislocation in patients with cerebral palsy. We investigated the effects of a novel hip brace on coxa valga. ⋯ The hip brace was effective in preventing the progression of coxa valga and hip displacement, suggesting that the prevention of coxa valga using hip brace is a contributing factor in prevention of hip displacement.

Studies have shown routine ultrasound surveillance (RUSS) will facilitate deep vein thrombosis (DVT) detection in patients with trauma and reduce the subsequent incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE); however, the findings were inconsistent. In adults with trauma at a high risk of venous thromboembolism, this systematic review and meta-analysis compared RUSS outcomes with those of "no RUSS." ⋯ The RUSS efficacy in adults with trauma at high risk for venous thromboembolism showed that it increases DVT detection, decreases PE incidence, and shortens the time to DVT diagnosis, with an uncertain impact on mortality. The evidence is low or very low in certainty because of bias, inconsistency, imprecision, and indirectness.

Herpes Zoster virus infection and the risk of developing dementia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Herpes Zoster, commonly known as shingles, is a viral infection that affects a significant portion of the adult population; however, its potential role in the onset or progression of neurodegenerative disorders like dementia remains unclear. ⋯ Our study showed no significant association between HZV and the incidence of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, but it shows a significant association between HZO and the incidence of dementia. More multicenter studies are needed to establish the actual association between the HZV and dementia.

Cognitive impairment in individuals with diabetes represents a multifaceted and increasingly prevalent health concern. This review critically examines the current evidence regarding the intricate relationship between diabetes and cognitive decline. It highlights the existing knowledge on the impact of diabetes on cognitive function, spanning from mild cognitive impairment to dementia, including vascular and Alzheimer dementia. ⋯ It advocates for longitudinal studies to understand disease progression better and identifies critical windows of vulnerability. The search for accurate biomarkers and predictive factors is paramount, encompassing genetic and epigenetic considerations. Personalized approaches and tailored interventions are essential in addressing the substantial variability in cognitive outcomes among individuals with diabetes.
