In Peru, cardiovascular accidents (CVA) cause around 15% of premature death, with an increase in CVA due to the prevalence of risk factors for CVA in the Peruvian population. Hemorrhagic CVA presents higher mortality compared to ischemic. This research aimed to identify the risk factors associated with hemorrhagic CVA. ⋯ Only systolic blood pressure (OR: 1.04; 95% CI: 1.02-1.06) and hypertension (OR: 0.29; 95% CI: 0.10-0.89) were significantly associated with hemorrhagic CVA compared to ischemic CVA. Hypertension is associated with hemorrhagic CVA compared to ischemic CVA. These results are consistent with the literature.

Reference intervals (RIs) of laboratory testing play a fundamental role in medical activities. RIs vary greatly for populations in different areas This study aimed to evaluate the age- and sex-specific reference intervals for a healthy population in a typical city of northern China. A cross-sectional study was performed in 4 tertiary care centers of Shijiazhuang of China, biochemical analytes were analyzed using a Beckman Coulter AU5800 (Beckman Coulter Inc., Brea, CA). ⋯ We found that different age groups of males and females have significant differences (all P < .001) in levels of various biochemical analytes. We provided a comprehensive age- and sex-specific RIs for biochemical analytes, which showed dynamic changes with both age and sex. For the local population, the reference intervals established here can be adopted in other clinical laboratories after appropriate validation.

Distribution characteristics of pathogens in different stages of pressure ulcers and the therapeutic effect of linear polarized polychromatic light combined with silver sulfadiazine cream.
To investigate the distribution characteristics of pathogens in different stages of pressure ulcers and observe the application of linear polarized polychromatic light (LPPL) combined with silver sulfadiazine cream in treating varying stages of pressure ulcers. This study comprised 88 patients with pressure ulcers who were enrolled in the department of burn and plastic surgery of our hospital from April 2019 to April 2022. The wound exudates from patients were collected, followed by analyzing the distribution of pathogens in different stages of pressure ulcers. ⋯ The corresponding time in the LPPL group was prolonged to 13.20 ± 3.76 and 18.82 ± 4.17 days, respectively. The main pathogens associated with wound infection in patients with pressure ulcers are Gram-negative bacteria. The curative effects of LPPL combined with sulfadiazine silver cream on patients with pressure ulcer is obviously improved, and the recovery and pain relief are faster while the healing time of pressure ulcer is shorter.

Malaria infection still represents a notable public health risk in Saudi Arabia. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of Plasmodium species among clinically suspected cases who presented at Badr General Hospital and healthcare facilities in selected regions of Badr Governorate, Madinah Province, Saudi Arabia between January 2021 and January 2022. A total of 493 suspected patients were recruited from Badr Governorate, investigated for malaria infection using CBFME and rapid diagnostic test- CareStart Malaria Pf/PAN (HRP2/pLDH) Ag Combo rapid diagnostic tests. ⋯ In addition, the majority of malaria cases (32/34, 94.11%) among male subjects while (2/34, 5.88%) among females. The current study revealed that malaria transmission is still active in Badr Governorate, Madinah Province, Saudi Arabia and represents a public health concern. Further screening implements and continuous epidemiological monitor of the status of malaria infection in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are thus warranted to improve its controlling activities and eradicate malaria endemicity in the country.

The spectrum of major and minor salivary gland disorders varies widely. Epidemiological data on some injury categories are rare and often not up-to-date. This study aims to analyze epidemiological data using clinical, paraclinical, and histopathological parameters. ⋯ In conclusion, the study highlighted the main epidemiological aspects of salivary gland disorders. Some data agree with the specialty literature, and particular aspects are also observed. Therefore, this research is useful both in the medical and research fields.
