Cross-sectional comparative study. This study aimed to analyze the role of cervical parameters, in terms of the perception process, when evaluating cervical sagittal balance on an X-ray image. Reports on the role of cervical parameters in the perception of cervical sagittal balance have not been made. ⋯ The simple parameter (C2s, C7s) has a higher dependency and correct answer contribution than the complex parameter (C2-7A, T1s-CL). The angular (C2-7A, T1s-CL, C2s, C7s) parameters have a higher dependency; however, both the length and angular parameters correct answer contribution were similar. The cervical parameters that have simpler properties were highly preferred and had a lower perception error.

The ongoing ENPOWER study exploring the efficacy and safety of the recombinant human endostatin (endostar) combined with programmed cell death 1 antibody sintilimab and chemotherapy showed encouraging efficacy and safety in advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer. To evaluate the real-world efficacy and safety of endostar combined with immune checkpoint inhibitor and chemotherapy (EIC) for advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer patients negative for actionable molecular biomarkers (NSCLCnm), patients with advanced NSCLCnm hospitalized to Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022 were screened for eligibility. The included patients were analyzed for the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR). ⋯ Among the 31 patients, 27 (87.1%) experienced at least 1 treatment-related adverse events, and 13 (41.9%) had the treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher. No antiangiogenesis-related adverse events were observed. The current study showed that EIC was potentially effective for patients with NSCLCnm, especially when used as first-line therapy, and well tolerated.

Septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein also known as Lemierre syndrome occurs secondary to an oropharyngeal infection often leading to septic embolisms to distant sites. Anaerobic gram-negative bacillus, Fusobacterium nucleatum and Fusobacterium necrophorum are commonly isolated organisms. Fusobacterium species has also been reported to complicate an intra-abdominal infection leading to septic thrombophlebitis of portal vein also known as pylephlebitis or abdominal variant of lemierre syndrome. ⋯ Due to its high mortality and associated long term disease morbidity, clinicians should always strive towards early diagnosis and treatment of the condition with involvement of multidisciplinary teams.

Exposure to cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg) is associated with renal tubular damage. People living near refineries are often exposed to multiple heavy metals at high concentrations. This cross-sectional study investigated the association between combined urinary Cd, As, and Hg levels and renal damage markers in 871 residents living near the Janghang refinery plant and in a control area. ⋯ The combined effect of the 3 heavy metals on urinary NAG levels was significant and stronger in the exposure group than in the control group. However, no relationship was observed between the exposure concentrations of the 3 heavy metals and urinary β2-MG levels. The results suggest that the BKMR model can be used to assess the health effects of heavy-metal exposure on vulnerable residents.

Cortical perforation combined with Masquelet technique to treat extensive bone and soft tissue injury: A case report.
We report a case of a serious traffic accident injury to the lower leg involving a large skin defect with the long bone exposed. In this situation, the usual intervention is flap transplantation after debridement and infection control by completely covering the wound. Flap transplantation has certain limitations; therefore, we chose the surgical strategy of cortical bone drilling-induced membrane technology (Masquelet technique). ⋯ From our experience in treating this case, we conclude that large skin defects, periosteal stripping, and bone exposure due to physical injury can be successfully treated with cortical perforation and the Masquelet technique so as to avoid flap transplantation. Therefore, this method can be used for large segment bone exposure.
