Horizontal semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (HSC-BPPV) is a second common canal of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV); its actual incidence may have been underestimated because of its complex pathogenesis. Although the canalith repositioning maneuver is the treatment of choice, it has a high recurrence rate, affecting some patients' lives and psychology. We submit a case report describing acupuncture and wheat grain moxibustion treatment for HSC-BPPV. ⋯ This brief clinical report suggests that acupuncture therapy may be a complementary option for treating HSC-BPPV.

Septic cavernous sinus thrombosis (SCST) is a rare infectious thrombophlebitic disease. The infection often arises from the tissues surrounding the cavernous sinus as well as the cavernous sinus drainage. Early symptoms of SCST include fever, headache, proptosis, ptosis, bulbar conjunctival edema, and limited eye movement. The complications include venous sinus thrombosis, intracerebral abscess, and subdural empyema. Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage combined with acute cerebral infarction has not been reported. ⋯ We report a case of SCST mainly presenting as acute cerebral infarction and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, with an acute onset and ultimately a poor prognosis. This complication is extremely rare and have not yet reported according existing literatures but can be life-threatening if not recognized and treated promptly. Early antibiotic administration and early sinus drainage may alter the patient's prognosis. By describing this unusual the case we hope to raise awareness of the need of early illness detection and treatment in order to avoid catastrophic consequences. It also exemplifies the mechanism of acute inflammatory disorders and aneurysm development.

In certain nations, the emergency department (ED) has been designated as the primary center to provide emergency contraception (EC). However, analyses of ED visits for EC are limited. Moreover, ED-based research that focuses on time is limited to only a few surveys. ⋯ In particular, nationwide school-based public sex education positively affected early ECP access. In contrast, ECP provision was delayed for patients who experienced nonconsensual coitus. Strategies for timely ECP access should account for possible concerns about stigmatization and privacy.

As individuals age, cancer becomes increasingly common. This continually rising risk can be attributed to various interconnected factors that influence the body's susceptibility to cancer. Among these factors, the accumulation of senescent cells in tissues and the subsequent decline in immune cell function and proliferative potential are collectively referred to as immunosenescence. ⋯ Furthermore, there are several age-related intervention methods, including metformin and rapamycin, which involve genetic and pharmaceutical approaches. This article aims to elucidate the defining characteristics of immunosenescence and its impact on malignant tumors and immunotherapy. We particularly focus on the future directions of cancer treatment, exploring the complex interplay between immunosenescence, cancer, and potential interventions.

Apoptosis of skin keratinocytes is closely associated with skin problems in humans and natural flavonoids have shown excellent biological activity. Hence, the study of flavonoids against human keratinocyte apoptosis has aroused the interest of numerous researchers. In this study, methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay and Western blots were used to investigate the skin-protective effect of isoviolanthin, a di-C-glycoside derived from Dendrobium officinale, on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-triggered apoptosis of skin keratinocytes. ⋯ Last, our results found isoviolanthin has a strong affinity for binding to KDM6B, CHAC2, ESCO2, and IPO4, which may be the potential target for treating skin injuries induced by reactive oxide species. The current study confirms isoviolanthin potential as a skin protectant. The findings may serve as a starting point for further research into the mechanism of isoviolanthin protection against skin damage caused by reactive oxide species (e.g., hydrogen peroxide).
