Acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia (AFOP) is a rare acute or subacute interstitial lung disorder characterized by the deposition of fibrin within the alveoli and organizing pneumonia with a patchy distribution. The clinical features of AFOP are nonspecific, and it is often misdiagnosed as pneumonia, cancer, tuberculosis, or other lung disorders. ⋯ Acute AFOP is an uncommon lung condition with poor prognosis; hence, early diagnosis and identification are particularly important. Definitive diagnosis requires histopathological findings. Currently, there is no unified treatment guideline for AFOP, and treatment must be tailored based on the etiology and severity of each individual patient disease. Subacute AFOP shows a good response to corticosteroid treatment.

Lung-protective ventilation is now the norm for all patients, regardless of the presence of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), owing to the mortality associated with higher tidal volumes (TV). Clinicians calculate TV using recorded height from medical records and predicted body weight (PBW); however, the accuracy remains uncertain. Our study aimed to validate accurate TV settings for lung-protective ventilation by examining the correlation between the charted height and bedside measurements. ⋯ In the group where heights were overestimated, over half of the patients received TV prescriptions from healthcare providers that surpassed the TV of calculated 8 mL/kg PBW based on their measured height. The risk factors for height overestimation include female sex, Asian ethnicity, and missing driver's license data. Alternative height measurement methods should be explored to ensure precise ventilation settings and patient safety.

Hemangioma is a common benign disease in clinical practice, but it is rare to find a giant hemangioma in the fetal period. ⋯ Most hemangiomas are small and asymptomatic. Giant hemangiomas are rare and associated with a variety of maternal and fetal complications. Therefore, this article aims to summarize the knowledge related to hemangioma through this case, strengthen doctors' understanding of this disease, and bring the attention of pregnant women to this disease to ensure early diagnosis and treatment and prevent a poor prognosis.

Laparoscopic resection for appendiceal mucocele secondary to endometriosis: A case report.
This case report describes a patient who underwent laparoscopic resection of the mucocele of the appendix secondary to endometriosis, a rarity in clinical practice. ⋯ Although appendiceal mucoceles secondary to endometriosis are rare, laparoscopic surgery in which only the lesion was resected is a useful strategy for the treatment and pathological diagnosis of appendiceal mucoceles without findings of malignancy.

Vertebroplasty (VP) effectively treats vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). However, the issue of secondary new VCFs (SNVCFs) after VP is yet to be addressed. Therefore, identification of risk factors for SNVCFs after VP may aid the development of strategies to minimize SNVCF risk. ⋯ In addition, the zoledronate group had a lower SNVCF incidence compared with the groups treated with alendronate (P = .05), selective estrogen receptor modulators (P = .26), or risedronate (P = .22). This study showed that low BMD, presence of an intradiscal cement leak, and long-term steroid use were risk factors for developing SNVCFs following VP. Additionally, among osteoporosis treatments prescribed for VP, zoledronate may be the preferred choice to reduce the risk of SNVCFs.
