Meta Analysis
Meta-analysis of the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on dysphagia in patients with Parkinson disease.
To systematically evaluate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on dysphagia in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). ⋯ Acupuncture has a specific curative effect on dysphagia in patients with PD, and the therapeutic effect is more significant than that in the control group, which can improve the dysphagia function and nutrition level in patients with PD more effectively.

Facial neuritis is a common clinical disease with high incidence, also known as Bell palsy or idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, which is an acute onset of peripheral facial neuropathy. In modern medicine, there have been obstacles to the effective treatment of facial neuritis. At present, the clinical use of Western medicine treatment is also a summary of clinical experience, the reason is that the cause of facial neuritis is unknown. ⋯ At the same time, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and the combination of acupuncture and medicine play an important role in the treatment of facial neuritis. This article discusses the treatment of facial neuritis with acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine, based on the research progress of modern medicine. In this review, we provide an overview of the effectiveness of acupuncture and medication combinations and facial neuritis with current studies investigating acupuncture and medication combinations in the treatment of facial neuritis.

Multicenter Study
Real-world analysis of integration of sacubitril/valsartan into clinical practice in Saudi Arabia.
Despite the demonstrated advantages of angiotensin receptor/neprilysin inhibitors in the management of heart failure, the pivotal Angiotensin-Neprilysin Inhibition versus Enalapril in Heart Failure (PARADIGM-HF) trial, which explored this class of medications, did not include individuals from Saudi Arabia. Recognizing that different nations and ethnic groups may exhibit unique characteristics, this study aimed to compare the demographics and outcomes of patients in Saudi Arabia who received sacubitril/valsartan (Sac/Val) with those enrolled in the PARADIGM-HF trial. In this retrospective, multicenter cohort study, we included all adult patients diagnosed with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) within a tertiary healthcare system in Saudi Arabia between January 2018 and December 2021 and were initiated on Sac/Val. ⋯ The mean ejection fraction significantly improved from 26.5 ± 8.4% to 30.5 ± 6.4% at 6 months (P < .001), while the median B-type natriuretic peptide level change was not significant (P = .39). Our study revealed notable disparities in the baseline characteristics of patients with HFrEF compared with those in the PARADIGM-HF trial. These findings offer valuable real-world insights into the prescription patterns and outcomes of Sac/Val in patients with HFrEF in Saudi Arabia, an aspect not previously represented in the PARADIGM-HF study.

The effects of esketamine on blood pressure and hypotension incidence during induction of bariatric surgery: A randomized controlled trial.
The prevalence of obesity is high. Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for severe obesity; however, the induction phase of anesthesia in these patients poses a risk of hypotension. Esketamine, known for its sympathetic nervous system stimulation, may stabilize blood pressure during induction. This study aimed to investigate the effects of esketamine on blood pressure in bariatric surgery patients. ⋯ A single dose of 0.2 mg/kg esketamine during the induction phase of bariatric surgery can improve blood pressure stability and decrease the incidence of hypotension. Furthermore, it is associated with reduced postoperative pain. Future studies could explore the effects of higher esketamine doses and validate these findings in a larger and more diverse patient population.

Acute kidney damage (AKI) is a common cause of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admissions. Implementing a reno-protective strategy for AKI prediction can significantly enhance outcomes. The renal angina index (RAI) is a risk stratification tool used to predict severe AKI. ⋯ The RAI score demonstrated superior predictive ability for Day 3 AKI, with a sensitivity of 72%, specificity of 95%, and area under the curve (AUC) of 0.837, compared to changes in serum creatinine from baseline (sensitivity: 65%, specificity: 89%, AUC: 0.773), fluid overload (sensitivity: 43.7%, specificity: 79%, AUC: 0.613), and illness severity scores (sensitivity: 52.4%, specificity: 80.5%, AUC: 0.657). RAI proved to be a reliable and rapid bedside test for identifying critically ill children at risk of developing severe AKI. This enables physicians to implement reno-protective measures and intervene early, thereby improving prognosis.
