In this study, we used a network pharmacological method to explore the active ingredients of Hedyotis diffusa Willd (HDW) in the treatment of acne and elucidated the physiological mechanisms in the human body in which they are involved. We identified the active compounds of HDW that are expected to act effectively in the human body using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database and analysis platform and extracted potential interacting proteins for each active compound using the Swiss Target Prediction platform. Next, we analyzed the potential mechanisms of action of the protein targets shared by HDW and each standard drug on acne and assessed the possibility of spontaneous occurrence of the binding between proteins and active compounds through the molecular docking process. ⋯ Our analysis suggests that HDW can, directly and indirectly, suppress sebum secretion and exert antiinflammatory effects on acne. Further, HDW may regulate free radicals and suppress apoptosis. Therefore, HDW can be used as an alternative or supplement to standard drugs for acne treatment in patients who cannot use standard treatments due to side effects.

Using the 10th Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey in 2020, we attempted to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and depression in 25,987 high school students. The demographic characteristics of the subjects were reviewed frequently, and the correlation between smartphone dependence and depression were determined. ⋯ According to the results of the study, it was determined that there is a relationship between smartphone usage and depression among Korean high school students. The findings from this study can be referenced to help guide the development of smartphone usage parameters for Korean teenagers in depression management programs.

This study aimed to determine the predictive value of pretreatment levels of hematological markers on the radiosensitivity of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The specific hematological markers assessed included total lymphocyte count (TLC), neutrophil count, platelet count, monocyte count, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR). A total of 353 ESCC patients who received radiotherapy (RT) alone or concurrent RT between 2015 and 2019 were reviewed. ⋯ In contrast, high pretreatment LMR and TLC were independent biomarkers associated with lower radiosensitivity. The concordance index of the nomogram was 0.737, and the calibration curves predicted by the nomogram were highly consistent with the observed experimental findings. Pretreatment hematologic markers (NLR, PLR, LMR, and TLC) can be used to predict the radiosensitivity of patients with ESCC accurately.

Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is the most common secondary osteoporosis. Bushen Jiangu (BSJG), a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy, is widely used for treatment of GIOP. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of BSJG therapy on the treatment of GIOP. ⋯ Our analysis indicates that BSJG therapy has a valid and safe effect on the treatment of GIOP in the clinic. However, the results need to be confirmed in more well-designed and large-scale RCTs.

To systematically evaluate the clinical risk factors of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complicated with invasive fungal infection (IFI) among patients. ⋯ Our results indicate that immunosuppressant, glucocorticoids, systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index score, antibiotic were risk factors for IFI in SLE patients. However, high quality of multicenter, large sample size-controlled trials are needed to validate the result.
