Treatment of unstable C1 semi-ring fractures with direct C1 pedicle screw fixation using a navigational template: A case report and literature review.
Because of the risk of C1 to C2 instability, which would reduce the mobility of the occipito-atlanto-axis articulation, unstable C1 semi-ring fractures are typically treated with C1 to C2 or C0 to C2 fusion. The vertebral artery and spinal cord are at risk of harm during the installation of C1 pedicle screws. There is a need for a method that can maintain the occipito-atlanto-axis articulation's mobility and increase the safety of C1 pedicle screw fixation, particularly for surgeons who have less experience inserting C1 pedicle screws freehand. ⋯ In particular for surgeons with less experience placing freehand C1 pedicle screws, direct C1 pedicle screw fixation with the aid of a navigational template was a good option because it can preserve the mobility of the occipito-atlanto-axis articulation and improve the safety of C1 pedicle screw.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a common cancer affecting children worldwide. The development of ALL is driven by several genes, some of which can be targeted for treatment by inhibiting gene fusions. PAX5 is frequently mutated in ALL and is involved in chromosomal rearrangements and translocations. ⋯ Additionally, ELN and PML genes have been found to fuse with PAX5, leading to adverse effects on B-cell differentiation. ELN-PAX5 interaction results in the decreased expression of LEF1, MB1, and BLNK, while PML-PAX5 is critical in the early stages of leukemia. PAX5 fusion genes prevent the transcription of the PAX5 gene, making it an essential target gene for the study of leukemia progression and the diagnosis of B-ALL.

Value of applying interactive micro-courses on occupational protection in operating room for nursing trainees.
This study aimed to investigate the application value of an interactive micro class on occupational protection in the operating room for nursing interns. Using a cluster sampling approach, 200 junior college nursing interns were selected as participants at our hospital, who were practicing from June 2020 to April 2021. They were randomly assigned to either the observation group or the control group, with 100 participants in each. ⋯ However, after the intervention, statistically significant differences were found between the 2 groups in physical (P < .001), chemical (P = .001), biological (P < .001), environmental (P < .001), and physiological and psychological factors (P < .001). Additionally, the scores of all items in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The implementation of the interactive micro class enhanced the quality of teaching related to occupational protection in the operating room for interning nurses, thus verifying its benefits in clinical teaching practices.

Chronic kidney dysfunction is associated with increased mortality in multiple cancer types. Preliminary evidence suggests the same to be true for B-large cell lymphomas (B-LCL). To analyze the relationship of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and outcome of B-LCL in detail we collected data on outcomes of 285 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed B-LCL treated at our institution with standard rituximab-containing regimens who did not have preexisting kidney disease or urinary tract obstruction at presentation. ⋯ In multivariate analysis, age and GFR remained the only independent prognostic factors. Subtracting 1 from the IPI score of patients who had GFR > 90 mL/min and IPI > 1 resulted in a prognostic index that divides patients into 3 prognostic groups (low risk = 0-1, intermediate risk = 2-3 and high risk = 4-5) with an acceptable patient distribution frequency (38%, 39%, and 23%, respectively) and improved statistical significance and separation in comparison to IPI (5-year survival rates of 92%, 74%, and 42%, respectively). GFR is an important independent prognostic factor for B-LCL that should be taken into account in clinical decision making and data analysis and probably be incorporated in prognostic indices.

Asymptomatic Candida glabrata urinary tract infection in an immunocompetent young female: A case report.
Fungal urinary tract infections (UTIs) are becoming increasingly common in hospitalized patients and Candida species are the most prevalent organisms. However, recurrent candiduria in young healthy outpatients is rare thus require further examination to find the etiologic factors. ⋯ We report a case of recurrent asymptomatic candiduria caused by azole-resistant Candida glabrata in a young healthy female with a novel CARD9 mutation. A functional study of this mutation should be performed in the future to determine its effect on asymptomatic fungal UTIs.
