Approximately 1-third of patients with severe asthma are candidates for both omalizumab and mepolizumab treatment. We aimed to compare the clinical, spirometric and inflammatory efficacy of these 2 biologics in atopic and eosinophilic "overlap" severe asthma patients. In our 3-center retrospective cross-sectional observational study, the data of patients who received omalizumab or mepolizumab for at least 16 weeks to treat severe asthma were examined. ⋯ It has been shown that having high eosinophil counts does not affect the clinical and spirometric responder patient rates for either biological condition. The success of omalizumab and mepolizumab treatment is similar in patients with atopic and eosinophilic overlap with severe asthma. However, because the baseline patient inclusion criteria are not compatible, head-to-head studies comparing both biological agents are required.

Left-sided colon cancer (LC) and right-sided colon cancer (RC) are 2 essentially different diseases, and the potential mechanisms regulating them remain unidentified. In this study, we applied weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to confirm a yellow module, mainly enriched in metabolism-related signaling pathways related to LC and RC. Based on the RNA-seq data of colon cancer in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and GSE41258 dataset with their corresponding clinical information, a training set (TCGA: LC: n = 171; RC: n = 260) and a validation set (GSE41258: LC: n = 94; RC: n = 77) were divided. ⋯ On the other hand, the high-risk group of the RC-R model showed enrichment for cell adhesion molecules and axon guidance signaling pathways. Furthermore, we identified 20 differentially expressed PRGs between LC and RC. Our findings provide new insights into the difference between LC and RC, and uncover the potential biomarkers for the treatment of LC and RC.

Testicular torsion accounting for 25% of acute scrotal disease, is an acute surgical condition. Atypical presentations of testicular torsion may lead delay diagnosis. ⋯ Symptoms of testicular torsion may be atypical, especially in prepubertal age. Detailed history, physical examination, point of care ultrasound usage and timely urologist consultation and intervention are important for prompt rescue to prevent testicular loss, testicular atrophy, and eventual impairment of fertility.

Bladder cancer (BC) is a frequently diagnosed cancer with high mortality. Male patients have a higher risk of developing BC than female patients. As a type of caspase-independent cell death, necroptosis plays a significant role in the occurrence and progression of BC. ⋯ Cox regression analysis indicated that the 15-NRLs signature was a risk factor independent of various clinical parameters. Additionally, immune cell infiltration, half-maximal inhibitory concentration, and somatic gene mutations differed significantly among different risk subsets, implying that the signature could assess the clinical efficacy of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This 15-NRLs risk signature may be helpful in assessing the prognosis and molecular features of male patients with BC and improve treatment modalities, thus can be further applied clinically.

The role of the absence of Hyrtl's anastomosis in monochorionic pregnancy: Friend or foe?: A case report.
Hyrtl's anastomosis, an intra-arterial shunt, plays a protective role when the placental territories supplied by the umbilical arteries are different in size. Its absence is associated with an increased risk of poor outcomes in singleton pregnancy. However, the literature and studies on the effect of absent Hyrtl's anastomosis in twin placentas are rare. ⋯ The absence of Hyrtl's anastomosis in our case seemed to show a favorable effect, representing a finding of opposite effects in monochorionic placentas compared with singleton placentas.
