Over 75% of menopausal women experience vasomotor symptoms (VMS), such as night sweats and hot flashes. Despite the prevalence of these symptoms, there is limited data on non-hormonal therapies to alleviate them. ⋯ While the results should be interpreted with caution until further clinical trials validate the efficacy and safety of NK1/3 receptor antagonists among menopausal women, these findings suggest that they are promising targets for future pharmacological and clinical studies in addressing vasomotor symptoms.

Pheochromocytomas are a group of tumors with high genetic heterogeneity, and the clinical characteristics of rearranged during transfection (RET)-mutated pheochromocytoma with medullary spongiform kidney are rarely studied. The treatment process of 1 patient with bilateral adrenal pheochromocytoma combined with medullary sponge kidney with RET gene mutation in our department was retrospectively analyzed, and the treatment methods for this type of disease were studied and summarized in combination with relevant literature. ⋯ On the basis of adequate perioperative preparation, surgical resection is the most effective and preferred treatment for this type of disease. Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive, safe, and effective by stages. Mutations in the RET proto-oncogene may lead to medullary spongy kidneys in multiple endocrine neoplasia 2.

To compare the quality and interobserver agreement in the evaluation of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) on computed tomography (CT) images between deep-learning reconstruction (DLR) and hybrid iterative reconstruction (hybrid IR). This retrospective study included 30 patients (age, 71.5 ± 12.5 years; 20 men) who underwent unenhanced lumbar CT. Axial and sagittal CT images were reconstructed using hybrid IR and DLR. ⋯ Subjective image noise, depictions of structures, and overall image quality were significantly better with DLR than with hybrid IR (P < .006, Wilcoxon signed-rank test). Interobserver agreements in the evaluation of LSS (with 95% confidence interval) were 0.732 (0.712-0.751) and 0.794 (0.781-0.807) for hybrid IR and DLR, respectively. DLR provided images with improved quality and higher interobserver agreement in the evaluation of LSS in lumbar CT than hybrid IR.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered a risk factor for severe COVID-19, but the mechanism remains unknown. This study used bioinformatics to help define the relationship between these diseases. The GSE147507 (COVID-19), GSE126848 (NAFLD), and GSE63067 (NAFLD-2) datasets were screened using the Gene Expression Omnibus. ⋯ This study identified key gene and defined molecular mechanisms associated with the progression of COVID-19 and NAFLD. COVID-19 and NAFLD progression may regulate ferroptosis through the CYBB-hsa-miR-196a/b-5p-TUG1 axis. This study provides additional drug options for the treatment of COVID-19 combined with NAFLD disease.

Diagnosing the precise etiology of low back pain (LBP) is crucial for facilitating speedy recovery in patients. Maigne's syndrome (MS), commonly referred to as thoracolumbar junction syndrome, is a condition characterized by pain resulting from nerve entrapment, yet its underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study presents a series of six case reports wherein patients diagnosed with MS received acupuncture treatment. ⋯ These findings underscore the significance of promptly diagnosing the underlying cause of LBP and suggest that acupuncture may be an effective approach in alleviating MS-related pain.
