This study aimed to explore the possible mechanisms of Ling Gui Zhu Gan decoction (LGZGD) in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome (NS) using network pharmacology combined with molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation. The active ingredients of LGZGD and their targets were retrieved from Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Swiss Target Prediction database. The NS targets were retrieved from Genecards, OMIM and Drugbank databases. ⋯ Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation results further indicated that the key active ingredients of LGZGD could stably bind to the core targets through hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction. This study demonstrates that the active ingredients of LGZGD may regulate multiple targets, biological processes and signaling pathways in NS. Our findings may provide a theoretical basis for further studies on LGZGD in the treatment of NS.

We report the case of a patient who initially presented with peripheral neuropathy and myositis without typical organ involvement, such as the kidneys, skin, or gastrointestinal system, but was ultimately diagnosed with polyarteritis nodosa (PAN). ⋯ In patients presenting with radicular and focal muscle pain, it is crucial to consider the potential for PAN, as observed in this case report.

This study evaluated the association and prognostic significance of the systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) with mortality in sepsis. In this cohort study, the sepsis patients were retrieved from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) and MIMIC-IV intensive care unit (ICU) databases. SIRI was calculated by using the neutrophil, monocyte, and lymphocyte counts. ⋯ A higher AUC value of SIRI compared with SOFA, and SAPS II in predicting 28 days to 1-year mortality was observed. Elevated SIRI was associated with an increased risk of mortality in sepsis. SIRI is an independent prognostic biomarker of mortality in sepsis.

The objective was to explore the relationships between computed tomography (CT) lung volume parameters and pulmonary function test (PFT) indexes and develop predictive scores to predict PFT indexes in Chinese preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer. Preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer aged 18 years or more and examined by chest CT scan and PET were consecutively recruited from April to August 2020, at Yunnan Cancer Hospital. CT and PET data were selected from medical record. ⋯ The area under the curve of receiver operating characteristics for FEV1 <2L, FEV1% <80%, FEV1/FVC <80% and FVC% <80% were 0.856, 0.667, 0.749 and 0.715, respectively. A prediction of poor lung function in preoperative patients suspected with lung cancer, using total lung volume and percent of low attenuation volume was possible. The predictive scores should be further evaluated for external validity.

This study aimed to explore suitable clustering algorithms for author collaborations (ACs) in bibliometrics and investigate which countries frequently coauthored with others in recent years. To achieve this, the study developed a method called the Follower-Leading Clustering Algorithm (FLCA) and used it to analyze ACs and cowords in the Journal of Medicine (Baltimore) from 2020 to 2022. ⋯ The proposed FLCA algorithm provides researchers with a comprehensive means to explore and understand the intricate connections between authors or keywords. Therefore, the study recommends the use of FLCA and visualizations with R for future research on ACs with cluster analysis.
