Physical workplace violence (WPV) occurs worldwide, causing psychological and physical injuries. However, reports from Saudi Arabia investigating which specialty is the most exposed are scarce. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and circumstances related to physical WPV among all healthcare providers in Saudi Arabia in 12 months, as well as the consequences for both attackers and targets of physical WPV. ⋯ Furthermore, those with direct physical contact with patients and those working with male patients only were more exposed to physical violence. Physical WPV is an important issue faced by HCWs, particularly those who work night shifts or have direct contact with patients. Results showed that more support, specific strategies and policies to reduce violence occurrence, and protection for healthcare providers are required.

Septic shock is a serious systemic disease with circulatory failure and abnormal cell metabolism caused by sepsis. However, the relationship between CD3D and CD247 and septic shock remains unclear. The septic shock datasets GSE33118 and GSE142255 profiles were generated from the gene expression omnibus databases GPl570, GPl17586. ⋯ Gene expression heat map showed that 5 core genes (CD247, Lck, cd3e, cd3d, ITK) were lowly expressed in the sepsis shock samples and highly expressed in the normal samples. CTD analysis showed that 5 core genes (CD247, Lck, cd3e, cd3d, ITK) were found to be associated with hemorrhage and necrosis. Low expression of cd3d, CD247 was observed in septic shock, and the lower the level of cd3d, CD247, the worse the prognosis.

Upregulation and the clinical significance of KCNQ1OT1 and HAGLROS lncRNAs in papillary thyroid cancer: An observational study.
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in regulating gene expression. Changes in their expression have been associated with many types of cancer, including thyroid cancer. This study aimed to investigate how changes in the expression of potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 opposite strand/antisense transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) and HAGLR opposite strand lncRNA (HAGLROS) lncRNAs correlate with the development and clinicopathological characteristics of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). ⋯ KCNQ1OT1 expression was linked to microcarcinoma and gender, while HAGLROS expression was linked to microcarcinoma and tumor size. When only microcarcinoma samples were evaluated, KCNQ1OT1 expression was higher in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues; however, no significant difference was observed in HAGLROS expression. Our data suggests that high expressions of KCNQ1OT1 and HAGLROS might contribute to the development of PTC and disease progression, and both lncRNAs may be potential therapeutic targets in PTC patients.

This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA), passive particle agglutination (PPA), and indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) in detecting Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in children. Serum samples from 165 children with acute community-acquired respiratory tract infections were examined using CLIA, PPA, and IFA, and consistency coefficient, specificity, and sensitivity were analyzed. Compared with the PPA (titer ≥ 1:160), the consistency coefficients of the immunoglobulin(Ig)M-CLIA, immunoglobulin(Ig)G-CLIA and IgM-IFA methods were 93.94%, 75.76%, and 83.64%, respectively. ⋯ The consistency coefficient of (IgM+IgG)-CLIA and PPA (titer ≥ 1:160) was 89.1%, and the sensitivity and negative predictive value of (IgM+IgG)-CLIA were 96.88% and 98.94%, respectively. CLIA MP-IgM has high concordance with PPA, and its specificity and sensitivity are higher than those of CLIA MP-IgG and IFA MP-IgM, suggesting its better diagnosis of early MP infection. The sensitivity and negative predictive value of CLIA MP (IgM+IgG) were higher than those of PPA or IFA, indicating that it should be considered as a priority in the diagnosis of MP infection.

To investigate the potential effect of repeated intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) drugs on corneal nerves. A total of 64 patients were treated with intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drugs. There were 19 cases of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD), 20 cases of diabetic macular edema (DME) and 25 cases of retinal vein occlusion (RVO). ⋯ Repeated intravitreal anti-VEGF drug can reduce the length of corneal nerves. For patients who need repeated intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF drugs, especially in DM, attention should be paid on the changes affecting the corneal nerves. It is also needed to strengthen the local anti-inflammatory therapy to avoid infection and to use artificial tears to protect the microenvironment of the ocular surface after the surgery.
