Quality of life in adult patients using dialyzable leukocyte extract for allergic rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis (AR) has considerable impact on the general health of individuals. Therefore, treatment trials should include an evaluation of quality of life. We aimed to determine changes in the quality of life of moderate/severe AR patients treated with standard treatment in addition to dialyzable leukocyte extract (DLE), a peptide-based immunomodulator. ⋯ DLE might be a beneficial adjuvant treatment for AR. Our results provide preliminary data for future research. Clinical trials registration ID: NCT02506998.

Tumors of the pineal region (TPRs) are rare neoplasms that are surgically challenging to resect. Conventional treatment strategies are available, but gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) is an alternative approach. This study presents a single-center experience with GKRS performed for TPR with and without histopathological diagnoses. ⋯ The total response rate to GKRS was 60%, and a 53.8% decrease in the alpha-fetoprotein and beta human chorionic gonadotropin levels was observed. The findings of this study indicate that GKRS is a safe procedure for TPRs, even in the event of insufficient histopathological findings. This treatment approach provides increased Karnofsky performance scores and an extended life expectancy.

Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused mainly by mutations in the tumor suppressor FLCN gene. Tumors caused by FLCN mutations are frequently benign and develop in skin, lungs, kidney, and other organs, leading to a variety of phenotypes that make early diagnoses of BHD challenging. ⋯ Our study highlights the importance of genetic analysis in diagnosis and clinical management of BHD syndrome.

Enteral tube feeding is an effective method of providing nutrients for patients who are unable to meet their nutritional requirements, and patients with parenteral nutrition are at an increased risk of infection. The submandibular gland is one of the major salivary glands and sialadenitis are often caused by obstruction of the salivary outflow tract. ⋯ We reported acute submandibular glanditis induced by nasogastric tube feeding under poorly controlled diabetes mellitus. We have to keep good oral hygiene and also pay attention to glycemic control in subjects under parenteral nutrition with tube feeding management.

Fluorescein angiography is a crucial examination in ophthalmology to identify retinal and choroidal pathologies. However, this examination modality is invasive and inconvenient, requiring intravenous injection of a fluorescent dye. In order to provide a more convenient option for high-risk patients, we propose a deep-learning-based method to translate fundus photography into fluorescein angiography using Energy-based Cycle-consistent Adversarial Networks (CycleEBGAN) We propose a deep-learning-based method to translate fundus photography into fluorescein angiography using CycleEBGAN. ⋯ However, CycleEBGAN showed superior results to CycleGAN in translating subtle abnormal features. We propose CycleEBGAN as a method for generating fluorescein angiography using cheap and convenient fundus photography. Synthetic fluorescein angiography with CycleEBGAN was more accurate than fundus photography, making it a helpful option for high-risk patients requiring fluorescein angiography, such as diabetic retinopathy patients with nephropathy.
