Antibiotics are a type of medication routinely prescribed by dental professionals; however, it is very common that the administration is not justified. Around 15% of dentists admit that they have administered antibiotics unnecessarily more than once a week. The objective of this project is to identify the effectiveness of the use of antibiotics as prophylactic therapy in oral surgery, and to carry out an analysis of the alternatives to pharmacological therapy. ⋯ Without a doubt, the biggest challenge is to develop academic update strategies aimed at dentists with active clinical practice and dental students from educational and government institutions to provide updated information about the correct use of prescription drugs.

The aim of this was to investigate the efficacy of physical exercise (leg swing and quadriceps strengthening exercises) versus platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) combination therapy. From January 2020 to August 2021, 106 patients with Kellgren-Lawrence Grade I-III knee osteoarthritis were divided into leg swing and quadriceps strengthening exercises (Group A) and intra-articular combination injections of PRP and HA (Group B) according to the treatment strategies. Patients in Group A received regular leg swing and quadriceps strengthening exercises for 3 months. ⋯ The VAS and WOMAC scores were similar in both groups at 1 and 3 months after treatment (P > .05); however, Group A patients had significantly superior VAS and WOMAC scores than Group B patients at 6 and 12 months after treatment. For the single leg stance test, 2-minute walk test, and time up and go test, Group A patients were significantly superior to Group B throughout follow-up (P < .001). The leg swing and quadriceps strengthening exercises resulted in a significantly better clinical outcomes than the combined PRP and HA therapy, with a sustained lower pain score and improved quality of life, balance ability, and functional activity within 12 months.

This study aimed to evaluate the association between bone metabolism indices and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in middle-aged and older adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We retrospectively analyzed 372 T2DM patients aged > 45 years who had attended the Endocrinology Department at our hospital (males, n = 192; postmenopausal females, n = 180). We collected data concerning patient characteristics, HbA1c levels, and bone metabolism indices (25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], β-isomerized C-terminal telopeptides, N-terminal osteocalcin [N-MID], procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide [P1NP], bone-specific alkaline phosphatase [BAP], calcium [Ca], and phosphorus [P]). ⋯ Multiple linear regression analysis showed that N-MID was a factor influencing HbA1c levels after adjusting for age and body mass index (BMI). Serum N-MID levels negatively correlated with HbA1c levels in middle-aged and older adult men with T2DM. Therefore, high serum N-MID levels may contribute to blood glucose control in T2DM patients.

The available evidence on the relationship between serum uric acid and triglycerides in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is limited. The objective of this study is to investigate whether there is an independent association between serum uric acid and triglycerides in ccRCC, while adjusting for other variables. This cross-sectional study involved 1018 participants with ccRCC, who were admitted to a hospital in China from December 1st, 2013 to January 1st, 2023. ⋯ The fully-adjusted linear regression analysis indicated a positive association between serum uric acid levels (100μmol/L) and triglyceride levels (mmol/L) after adjusting for confounding factors (β = 0.13, 95% CI [0.07, 0.18]). Furthermore, a smooth curve was constructed between serum uric acid and triglycerides based on the fully-adjusted model. In patients with ccRCC, there was a positive association between serum uric acid and triglycerides.

Neurodegeneration of the autonomic nervous systems due to Parkinson disease (PD) may lead to increase in the QT duration. In recent years, a new parameter index of cardio-electrophysiological balance (ICEB) was found. ICEB is a significant parameter of medicine related dysrhythmia. ⋯ Also, the ICEB and ICEBc variables were appreciably higher in PD cases. The findings of our investigation suggest that ICEB is related to PD. ICEB can help to evaluate arrhythmia risk in patients with PD.
