Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death globally, followed by cancer. Angiotensin II contributes greatly to CVD pathogenesis, and Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) constitute a mainstay in hypertension and CVD management. However, the relationship between ARBs and cancer initiation is controversial, with no clear data in Lebanon. ⋯ In summary, a significant overall protective effect of ARBs against lung, bladder and colorectal cancers was found. This beneficial response was time-dependent. These results can guide patients on treatment options and clinicians for informed decision-making.

To explore the molecular mechanism of Simiao Decoction (SMD) intervening atherosclerosis (AS). The main components and potential mechanisms of SMD remain unknown. This study aims to initially clarify the potential mechanism of SMD in the treatment of AS based on network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques. ⋯ The Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis revealed that the shared targets involved a number of signaling pathways, including the advanced glycosylation end product-receptor of AGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, Hepatitis B, Lipid and atherosclerosis, Chemical Carcinogenesis-Receptor Activation, and Pathways in Cancer. The molecular docking demonstrated that the binding energies of quercetin, kaempferol, and luteolin with 5 important targets were favorable. This study reveals the active ingredients and potential molecular mechanism of SMD in the treatment of AS, and provides a reference for subsequent basic research.

In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of adolescent students attending extracurricular tutoring. However, extracurricular tutoring, being a distinct form of education, may have varying effects on cognitive capabilities compared to conventional education. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to conduct a thorough examination of the effects of extracurricular tutoring on cognitive abilities among adolescent students. ⋯ Furthermore, a propensity score-matched analysis was conducted in order to mitigate potential bias by using confounding variables identified in the previous step. The study results show that participation in extracurricular tutoring can significantly increase the level of cognitive ability of adolescent students, with adjustments made for age, gender, ethnicity, number of family members, net family income per capita, education and training expenditure in the past years, change of residence for enrollment, change of domicile address for enrollment, locality of the current school, class size, hold a position as a class cadre, average daily study time on weekdays, average study time per day during weekends. The findings imply that the government should provide tutorial subsidies to disadvantaged groups of adolescent students, allocate educational resources equitably, and invest more in education resources in less developed regions to foster fair and healthy development of education and improve the cognitive abilities of young students in the long-term.

The ambiguous "internal carotid artery"-Ultrasound diagnosis of congenital absence of the internal carotid artery: A case report and review of the literature.
Congenital anatomical variation of internal carotid artery (ICA) rarely occurs, and congenital absence of the ICA is even rarer. Few reports are available on the diagnosis of congenital absence of the ICA by carotid doppler ultrasound (CDUS), and most cases have been identified by computed tomographic angiography (CTA) or digital subtraction angiography (DSA). ⋯ Congenital absence of the ICA is rare and usually diagnosed by CTA or DSA in clinical practice. If radiologists do not have adequate knowledge about the associated ultrasonic characteristics, a missed diagnosis may occur. As a noninvasive and rapid screening tool for cervical vascular diseases, carotid doppler ultrasound offers a new approach for the diagnosis of congenital absence of the ICA.

Chylous aqueous humor caused by hyperlipidemia: A case report and literature review.
Generally, there is no lipoprotein in aqueous humor, and chyle usually exists transiently in the body. Therefore, persistent chylous aqueous humor is rare. ⋯ Although the impact of hyperlipidemia on the cardiovascular system and digestive system is well known, its impact on the eyes is often overlooked. We report a rare case of unilateral chylous aqueous humor caused by hyperlipidemia. Through the analysis of this special case, we recommend that ophthalmologists should pay attention to the impact of blood lipid change on eyes.
