Individual heart failure patient variability in nocturnal hypoxia and arrhythmias.
Traditional heart failure research often uses daytime population parameter estimates to assess hypoxia and arrhythmias. This approach might not accurately represent heart failure patients as nighttime cardiac behaviors offer crucial insights into their health, especially regarding oxygen levels and heart rhythms. We conducted a prospective study on nocturnal oxygen saturation and heart rate in home-dwelling heart failure patients over 6 nights. ⋯ Our research highlights wearable devices' potency in medical research for capturing essential nocturnal data. In only 6 nights, we gleaned invaluable clinical insights for optimizing patient care. This study is pioneering, being the first to intensively examine nighttime oxygen levels and heart rates in home-based heart failure patients.

Infertility is closely related to obesity. Relative fat mass (RFM) is a newer index for assessing percentage of body fat, which reflects the amount of body fat better than body mass index (BMI), but its relationship with infertility needs further study. The purpose of this study was to assess whether there was an association between RFM and infertility in women aged 20 to 44 years in the United States. ⋯ In contrast, no statistically significant association between RFM and infertility was found on the left side of K1 as well as on the right side of K2. There was a nonlinear relationship between RFM and infertility, with a positive association with infertility when RFM was in the range of 31.04 to 48.4. This suggests that RFM may be an alternative to BMI in the management of obese infertile women, but this needs to be further confirmed by prospective studies.

Strengthening the capability of clinical surgical nurses to provide person-centered care (PCC) requires a thorough analysis of several related factors. This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design to investigate the factors that influence surgical nurses' perioperative competency in the performance of PCC in Anhui, China. A convenience sampling was implemented to administer a questionnaire survey to 437 nurses with more than 1 year of experience working in surgical wards. ⋯ Participants with high levels of empathy (β = 0.502, P < .001), low levels of job burnout (β = -0.288, P < .001), humanistic nursing training (β = 0.167, P < .001), and personnel agency (β = 0.083, P < .001) showed better PCC competence. The regression model analysis showed that 4 influencing factors explained 59.2% of the variance (F = 158.930, P < .001, adjusted R2 = 0.592). These findings suggest that steps should be taken to strengthen the key factors, such as improving empathy, minimizing job burnout, offering more humanities training, and enhancing personalities, to reinforce PCC competency.

Clinical features of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility syndrome (HMS) have classically focused on dysfunctions related to the musculoskeletal system. A growing body of literature suggests substantial multisystemic involvement, although this has not been recapitulated in a pediatric/young adult population. Leveraging a large United States healthcare claim database illuminates multisystem disorders among patients diagnosed with hEDS and HMS in the age range of 10 to 24. ⋯ This study highlights multisystem diagnoses within the pediatric hEDS/HMS populations. hEDS patients had higher rates of multisystem diagnoses compared to HMS patients. These results suggest a high multisystem disease burden for young hEDS/HMS patients. Future research is needed to understand the timing and presentation of clinical symptoms for this population.

The interest on short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) regulating the progress of neurological diseases has gained significant attention in recent years. This bibliometric analysis aimed to provide insights into the current state and future trends of global research on SCFAs in neurological research. ⋯ SCFAs in neurological research will continue to be an active area in the near future. Future trends might be correlation analysis and neurotherapeutics of SCFAs on patients with psychical diseases and deeper mechanism research is still needed.
