In the low-weight newborn patient group, the development of catheter related bloodstream infections after cardiac surgery significantly impacts morbidity and mortality. In our study, the effects of choosing femoral or internal jugular vein localization in newborns on postoperative infection will be examined. Our hypothesis is that there may be a higher risk of catheter related bloodstream infections in the femoral region. ⋯ Changes in white blood cells, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin measurements between preoperative and postoperative day 3 did not show statistically significant difference between the groups (P > .05). According to the results of our study, the placement of FV and internal jugular vein in neonates undergoing cardiac surgery did not differ in terms of postoperative infection risk. With appropriate sterilization, preventive measures and care considerations, FV or internal jugular vein region may be preferred based on the practitioner's expertise and choice in this patient group.

Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor with the second incidence rate and the third mortality rate worldwide. In this study, we identified and validated an immune-related gene signature, explored the clinical and molecular characteristics of the signature-defined risk groups, and assessed its ability in predicting prognosis, immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy responses. The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used as the training set while GSE39582 database as the validation set. ⋯ Signature-defined high-risk group was associated with advanced disease, poor pathological prognostic factors and less active immune infiltration microenvironment. Besides, the response to immunotherapy of high-risk group was predicted to be poorer by immunophenoscore and tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion scores. Our signature proved its efficacy in predicting prognosis, tumor immune microenvironment and responses to immunotherapy in colorectal cancer.

Effective communication of scientific knowledge plays a crucial role in the advancement of medical research and health care. Technological advancements have introduced large language models such as Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT), powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which has already shown promise in revolutionizing medical writing. This study aimed to conduct a detailed evaluation of ChatGPT-3.5's role in enhancing various aspects of medical writing. ⋯ It is crucial for medical professionals to ensure thorough human review and validation to maintain the accuracy and relevance of the content in case they eventually use AI as a supplementary resource in medical writing. Accepting this mutually symbiotic partnership holds the promise of improving medical research and patient outcomes, and it sets the stage for the fusion of AI and human knowledge to produce a novel approach to medical assessment. Thus, while AI can streamline certain tasks, experienced medical writers and researchers must perform final reviews to uphold high standards in medical communications.

Vibrio vulnificus infection complicated by acute-on-chronic liver failure: A case report.
Vibrio vulnificus is a gram-negative bacterium that can cause 3 clinical syndromes: gastrointestinal symptoms, skin septicemia, and primary septicemia. V vulnificus infection can induce an exacerbation of liver disease, eventually requiring intensive care for multiorgan failure. ⋯ This report underscores the importance of timely and repeated DPMAS treatment of patients with a drinking history or chronic liver disease when they present with V vulnificus septicemia.
