To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of edaravone combined with Ginkgo Leaf Extract and Dipyridamole (GLED) versus edaravone alone in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) by the method of meta-analysis. ⋯ The combination of edaravone with GLED for treating ACI has better efficacy and higher safety than edaravone alone. Given the limited number of studies identified and possibility of publication bias, the above findings should be verified by more high-quality trials in the future.

Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) are receiving widespread attention for their neuropsychological developmental issues, which include cognitive, adaptive, motor, speech, behavioral, and executive functioning deficits as well as autism spectrum disorders. Timely identification of risk factors influencing neuropsychological development and implementation of appropriate interventions are crucial for enhancing the neuropsychological outcomes of children with CHD, ultimately benefiting the children, their families, and society as a whole. This comprehensive review article aimed to explore the epidemiology, risk factors, assessment methods, and monitoring strategies of neuropsychological development in children with CHD. By providing a detailed examination of these factors, this review serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in the field, facilitating deeper understanding and more effective management of neuropsychological issues in this vulnerable population.

Recovery of gastrointestinal functional after surgery for abdominal tumors: A narrative review.
Postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction, including temporary nonmechanical suppression of gastrointestinal motility (known as postoperative ileus), occurs in about 10% surgeries of abdominal tumors. Since these complications can prolong hospitalization and affect eating, it is important to understand their risk factors and identify effective interventions to manage or prevent them. The present review comprehensively examined the relevant literature to describe risk factors for postoperative ileus and effective interventions. ⋯ Interventions that can shorten or prevent such ileus include minimally invasive surgery, early enteral nutrition as well as use of chewing gum, laxatives, and alvimopan. Most of these interventions have been integrated into current guidelines for enhanced recovery of gastrointestinal function after surgery. Future high-quality research is needed in order to clarify our understanding of efficacy and safety.

The intricate interplay between the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the immune system has long been a focal point in understanding disease progression. Among the myriad of immune cells, basophils, often overshadowed, have recently emerged as pivotal contributors to the complex immunological landscape of HIV infection. This paper aims to provide a succinct overview of the enigmatic roles of basophils in HIV pathogenesis, elucidating their multifaceted functions and implications. ⋯ Moreover, harnessing basophils as potential vaccine targets or immune modulators represents a compelling avenue for future research. In conclusion, the emerging understanding of basophils' multifaceted involvement in HIV infection challenges prior perceptions and underscores their significance in shaping immune responses and disease outcomes. This abstraction highlights the need for continued research to unlock the full potential of basophils, paving the way for novel strategies in combatting HIV/AIDS.

Anemia affects a third of the world's population and contributes to increased morbidity and mortality, decreased work productivity, and impaired neurological development. In recent years, many studies have found a possible association between anemia and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), especially in various types of nutritional deficiency and hemoglobin disorders anemia. Anemia may affect hearing through various mechanisms, including affecting microcirculation in the ear, causing tissue hypoxia in the ear, and through inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways. This review aims to comprehensively analyze the association between various types of anemia and SNHL, including possible biological mechanisms, clinical features, and treatment strategies, and clarify the importance of anemia treatment and management in preventing SNHL.
