Evaluation of retinal microvascular changes with OCT-A in Parkinson disease and essential tremor.
This study aimed to evaluate the presence and comparison of microvascular abnormalities in essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson disease (PD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) and to show the relationship between retinal microvascular changes and disease stage in the patient group. A total of 176 eyes, including 26 PD diagnosed according to the United Kingdom PD Society Brain Bank criteria, 31 ET diagnosed according to the Washington heights-inwood genetic study of ET (WHIGET) criteria and 31 healthy controls, were included in the study. Unified PD assessment scale (UPDRS) motor scores, non-motor symptom scale (NMS), modified Hoehn&Yahr stages (mH&Y) and Fahn-Toloso-Marin grading scale were recorded. ⋯ In both eyes, OD radial peripapillary capillarity inside the disc small values of PD were significantly lower than those of ET and controls (P < .05). In our study, deep macular vascular density, RNFL and radial peripapillary capillarity were significantly lower in PD compared with ET and control groups, and radial peripapillary capillarity was lower in ET compared with control group. This study provides valuable information regarding the potential of OCT-A as a diagnostic tool for PD and ET.

Gliomas, the most common and deadly cancers of the central nervous system, present a unique immunological barrier that severely undermines the effectiveness of immunotherapies. Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1), belonging to the SOCS protein family and playing a pivotal role in various cancer treatment strategies and is abundant in high-grade gliomas. This study conducted a comparative analysis of SOCS1 and glioma immune checkpoints. ⋯ The inclusion of SOCS1 in the developed predictive model significantly enhanced its precision. Our findings highlight SOCS1's potential as an innovative target for glioma immunotherapy, providing a novel strategy to overcome the immunological barriers posed by gliomas. Furthermore, identifying SOCS1 as a viable diagnostic marker for aggressive gliomas improves the accuracy of prognostic predictions for affected patients.

Scoliosis, marked by abnormal spinal curvature, is common in adolescents and can lead to chronic pain and reduced quality of life. The relationship between physical activity and scoliosis is debated. In this study, we aim to investigate the causal relationship between physical activity levels and idiopathic scoliosis risk using the Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. ⋯ Total physical activity emerges as an idiopathic scoliosis risk factor, warranting mechanistic exploration. LIPA and MVPA do not causally link to scoliosis. Idiopathic scoliosis does not influence activity levels.

Preventive treatment is crucial in averting the onset of musculoskeletal diseases, particularly among individuals in high-stress occupations. This study aimed to develop a forest healing program and a standardized survey index to gauge its efficacy in mitigating stress and preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Service-oriented workers who engage in repetitive tasks but are not traditional office workers at risk of musculoskeletal issues were recruited. ⋯ Evaluation of 42 participants pre- and post-program revealed significant reductions in PSS (25.857 ± 8.120/17.905 ± 5.958; P < .001), SOM (27.905 ± 8.839/20.286 ± 8.019; P < .001), and standard survey index scores (33.857 ± 10.280/23.333 ± 8.703; P < .001). The developed forest healing program demonstrated substantial stress relief and muscle relaxation benefits, proving effective in preventing musculoskeletal diseases. Moreover, the standardized survey index emerged as a valuable tool for assessing stress related to such disorders, exhibiting correlations with PSS and SOM.
