Case Reports
Removal of schwannoma from the psoas muscle with intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring: A case report.
The incidence of a schwannoma within the psoas muscle is rare, and only a few cases have been reported. The surgical approach to removing schwannomas present in the psoas muscle is challenging because of its anatomical proximity to the lumbar plexus. ⋯ We report that schwannoma removal in the psoas muscle, which is adjacent to the lumbar plexus, can be safely performed using intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.

Case Reports
Adult-type granulosa cell tumor associated with elevated luteinizing hormone: Two rare case reports.
Adult-type granulosa cell tumors (AGCTs), which account for 2% to 5% of all malignant ovarian tumors, are rare sex cord-stromal tumors that usually secrete excess estrogens, but they can also secrete androgens. ⋯ The cases suggest that elevated serum LH levels may be a sign of unknown tumors in cases of oligomenorrhea or secondary amenorrhea. It is useful to evaluate the serum levels of inhibin B and anti-Müllerian hormone to improve the early recognition of ovarian granulosa cell tumors.

This study aimed to analyze the distribution of gout patients and the utilization of healthcare services in South Korea to provide valuable recommendations to clinicians and policymakers. A cross-sectional study was conducted. Claims data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service spanning 2010 to 2019 were utilized, and a sample of 69,680 patients was included in the study. ⋯ Although the total costs of gout management increased, there was no significant increase in cost per patient. This study provides insights into the current state of healthcare utilization for gout patients in South Korea and trends in the disease burden and use of medications. The findings have crucial implications for clinicians and policymakers involved in decision-making regarding the management and treatment of gout.

Complications of rod migration into the occipital bone after upper cervical fusion are very rare. No other cases have been reported, especially when associated with destructive spondyloarthropathy (DSA). The purpose of this case report is to remind clinicians of the risk of rod migration in cervical spine surgery in patients with DSA and to provide information on its causes, countermeasures, and treatment. ⋯ The effective management of occipital bone erosion after posterior cervical spine surgery for destructive spondyloarthropathy necessitates meticulous fixation planning, proactive rod length adjustment, preoperative assessment of the occipital position, and consideration of the compensatory upper cervical range of motion to prevent migration-related issues.

The purpose of this study was to reveal the current trends and preferences of Chinese orthopedic surgeons regarding anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction through a nationwide web-based survey conducted in China. The survey questionnaire was distributed via WeChat to the chairmen of provincial orthopedic and sports medicine organizing committees in China, who then shared it in their respective WeChat workgroups. The questionnaire consisted of 52 multiple-choice questions covering 8 sections. ⋯ A total of 812 valid questionnaires were returned: 94.21% of the respondents preferred single-bundle reconstruction of ACL, while 61.70% preferred autogenous semitendinosus plus gracilis reconstruction; 76.35% of the respondents preferred establishing the femoral tunnel first, while 47.29% preferred establishing the femoral tunnel through a medial auxiliary approach; and 85.10% of the respondents recommended patients to undergo surgery within 3 months after ligament injury. Besides, the vast majority of respondents chose to retain the ligamentous remnant bundle (92.98%) and recommended routine use of knee braces postoperatively (94.09%). It is recommended to perform arthroscopic single-bundle ACL reconstruction with the remnant preserving technique using a hamstring autograft within 3 months of ACL rupture, with support of postoperative functional braces.
