A case report of refractory amebic colitis and literature review.
Amebic colitis has been less prevalent in recent times in China, and the similarity of its symptoms to those of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results in the difficulty of early identification and diagnosis. ⋯ Individuals newly diagnosed with IBD should undergo essential screening for amebiasis. And the use of steroids should be taken with caution, especially in cases where the effect of mesalamine is limited. For symptomatic intestinal amebiasis, even after the administration of tissue amebicides, the continued use of luminal amebicides is necessary to prevent recurrence.

This study aimed to assess the utility of serum YKL-40 and serum dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP4) as biomarkers for distinguishing between type 2 (T2)-high and T2-low asthma in the Chinese population. Additionally, we sought to explore the associations of serum YKL-40 and DPP4 levels with asthma characteristics and conventional markers. A real-world observational cross-sectional study was conducted, involving a total of 75 adult asthma patients. ⋯ Among Chinese adult asthma patients, a positive correlation was observed between serum YKL-40 levels and FeNO in females aged over 40 with FEV1%pred less than 80%. Additionally, a weak negative correlation was found between serum DPP4 levels and FEV1/FVC. However, neither serum YKL-40 nor serum DPP4 levels exhibited the capability to differentiate between T2-high and T2-low asthma.

Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is a hereditary blood disorder characterized by abnormal hemoglobin, causing red blood cells to assume a sickle shape, leading to various complications. Climate change has emerged as a significant global challenge, influencing environmental conditions worldwide. This paper explores the implications of climatic variations on the prevalence, management, and outcomes of SCA. ⋯ To mitigate the implications of climatic change on SCA, interdisciplinary strategies are essential. These strategies may include enhancing healthcare systems' resilience to climate-related disruptions, implementing adaptive measures to address changing environmental conditions, and promoting public awareness and education on managing SCA amidst climate variability. In conclusion, climatic variations pose significant challenges for individuals with SCA, affecting the prevalence, management, and outcomes of the disease.

Duodenal malignant melanoma: Primary and metastatic case series and literature review.
Duodenal malignant melanoma is rare, and its early clinical symptoms are insidious, making it difficult to diagnose in its early stages. Combined with previous literature, We explored the clinicopathological characteristics and v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 mutations in primary and metastatic duodenal malignant melanoma, in order to provide some experience on its differential diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ Primary and metastatic cases should be diagnosed through previous medical history analysis and detailed physical and auxiliary examinations. This would enable a diagnosis based on characteristic histomorphology and immunohistochemical markers. An early diagnosis and surgical treatment can prolong patient survival and the molecular inspection of v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 mutations can guide follow-up treatment.

Sequence studies of the entire exome and transcriptome of lymphoma tissues have identified MYD88 and PIM1 as involved in the development and oncogenic signaling. We aimed to determine the frequency of MYD88 and PIM1 mutations, as well as their expressions in conjunction with the clinicopathological parameters identified in mature large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The ten-year retrospective study included 50 cases of mature large B-cell lymphoma, diagnosed at the Pathology Department of the Emergency County Hospital of Constanţa and Săcele County Hospital of Brasov. ⋯ In cases of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), immunopositivity of MYD88 is associated with non-germinal center B-cell origin (P < .001). The multivariate analysis observed the association between high lactate dehydrogenase value and the immunohistochemical expression of PIM1 or with the mutant status of the PIM1 gene representing negative prognostic factors (HR = 2.066, P = .042, respectively HR = 3.100, P = .004). In conclusion, our preliminary data suggest that the oncogenic mutations of PIM1 and MYD88 in our DLBCL cohort may improve the diagnosis and prognosis of DLBCL patients in an advanced stage.
