Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection was common worldwide and previous researches on the correlation between H pylori infection and metabolic abnormality provided inconsistent conclusions. We assessed acute H pylori infection prevalence and the relationship with metabolic abnormality in general Chinese population. Participants attending for the physical examination underwent a carbon-13 urea breath test. ⋯ Spearson correlation analysis showed that gender, BMI, ALB, GLB, total bilirubin, DBIL, indirect bilirubin, and FPG were closely related to H pylori infection. Multinomial logistic regressions analysis with stepwise subset selection further identified gender, BMI, ALB, GLB, DBIL, and FPG as independent risk factors for acute H pylori infection. Our results indicated that acute H pylori infection might has a significant impact on metabolic abnormalities, which should be further confirmed.

The aim of this study was to explore the effect of virtual diagnosis and treatment combined with the medical record teaching method in standardized training of general practitioners. Eighty students who had standardized general practice training, from March 2020 to March 2022, in the grassroots practice base of general practitioner training in the affiliated Hospital of our Medical College were retrospectively analyzed and divided into 2 groups according to the teaching method that they received. The differences in assessment scores, critical thinking, clinical thinking ability, learning autonomy ability, and classroom teaching effectiveness were compared, and the students' satisfaction with teaching was investigated. ⋯ Virtual diagnosis and treatment combined with case-based learning teaching has a very good effect in the standardized training of general practitioners. Students are generally satisfied with their learning experience, which can improve their critical thinking ability and clinical thinking skills. This teaching method is worth further popularizing.

Serum bilirubin levels may have therapeutic benefits in oxidative stress-related diseases, but their role in stroke remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum bilirubin levels on admission and clinical outcomes in ischemic stroke patients. We prospectively collected data from consecutive ischemic stroke admissions. ⋯ Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms of this relationship. There is a strong correlation between serum bilirubin levels and the severity and prognosis of ischemic stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, early control of serum TBIL and direct bilirubin is crucial for the treatment and prognosis of ischemic stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Thyroid dysfunction is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease; however, whether plasma thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in subjects with euthyroidism affect the risk of cardiovascular disease remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the causal association between plasma TSH levels and cardiovascular diseases, particularly ischemic heart disease and heart failure (HF). Summary statistics from the Integrative Epidemiology Unit Open genome-wide association studies Project and FinnGen consortium were used to investigate the causal relationship between plasma TSH levels and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. ⋯ These results were further validated using sensitivity analysis. Our findings show that increased plasma TSH levels in patients with euthyroidism may increase the risk of unstable angina pectoris but reduce the risk of HF in overweight patients. This evidence indicates that plasma TSH levels may need to be carefully controlled in specific patients.

Kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP) is a common urinary tumor that causes lymph node invasion. Once metastatic, the prognosis is poor and there is a lack of effective early diagnostic markers for this tumor. The expression of CCNB1 in KIRP tumor tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues in The Cancer Genome Atlas database with or without the genotype-tissue expression database, and a consistent result was obtained in 32 paired tissues. ⋯ Finally, drug sensitivity analysis combined with molecular docking identified 5 targeting drugs with the strongest binding activity to CCNB1. CCNB1 is a potential and reliable biomarker for KIRP diagnosis and can be used to predict the survival of patients with KIRP. The 5 selected drugs targeting CCNB1 may provide new hopes for patients with KIRP metastasis.
