This study aimed to investigate the association between the intensity of statin therapy and the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes in individuals without prior diabetes who were being treated for dyslipidemia with statins for the primary prevention of CVD, using the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening database. The database is a longitudinal cohort study of Korean men and women 40 years of age or older who underwent comprehensive biannual screening health examinations by Korean National Health Insurance Service from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2015. We included patients in the health screening checkup cohort who underwent health checkups in 2009 and 2010. ⋯ At that time, a total of 641 diabetes cases occurred, 41 from using low-intensity statins, 588 from moderate-intensity statins, and 11 from high-intensity statins. The results indicated no significant differences in the incidence of death, CVD death, or CVD among those in the strong statin group compared with the reference groups. While statin treatment for the primary prevention of CVD in patients with dyslipidemia showed a subtle difference in the incidence of diabetes, there was no difference in the occurrence of CVD or CVD death according to statin intensity.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the marital adjustment of patients with Crohn's disease and their spouses, and to analyze its influencing factors. It lays the investigation foundation for the follow-up binary study of Crohn's disease patients and their spouses. Using convenience sampling, 177 pairs of patients and their spouses from a tertiary hospital in Nanjing, China were selected. ⋯ However, the assessment results of one partner should not be limited to replacing those of the couple. In clinical practice, patient age, monthly family income, self-disclosure of distress, marital support, and subjective well-being should be considered. Spouses should be encouraged to participate in patient care and patient-spouse interventions should be implemented as a whole to improve marital stability.

Uterine rupture is an obstetrical emergency associated with severe maternal and fetal mortality. It is rare in the unscarred uterus of a primipara. ⋯ Spontaneous uterine rupture should be considered in patients even without acute pain, regardless of gestational age, and pregnancy with abdominal cystic mass should consider the possibility of uterine rupture.

While papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) generally exhibits a favorable prognosis post-surgery, the poorly differentiated subtype presents elevated rates of postoperative recurrence. Certain aggressive cases demonstrate invasive behavior, compromising adjacent structures and leading to a poor prognosis. This study delineates a unique case of postoperative PTC recurrence, complicated by esophageal fistula, that showed favorable outcomes following brief Vemurafenib treatment. ⋯ Vemurafenib demonstrates potential as a targeted therapeutic strategy for recurrent PTC harboring the BRAFV600E mutation. This approach may effectively mitigate tumor dimensions and the associated risk of esophageal and tracheal fistulas.

To evaluate the impact of CO2 fractional laser combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) gel on skin barrier in acne scar patients. In a retrospective analysis, we examined 105 acne scar patients admitted between July 2018 and August 2021. Of these, 51 received only CO2 fractional laser (control group), while 54 underwent a combination of CO2 fractional laser and rhEGF gel (observation group). ⋯ Quality of life scores were higher, with fewer adverse reactions and greater treatment satisfaction. Combining CO2 fractional laser with rhEGF gel markedly improves acne scar treatment efficacy, enhances skin barrier function, reduces inflammation, and elevates quality of life. Its safety profile supports its broader clinical adoption.
