This case report aims to provide clinical evidence on the effectiveness of integrating chiropractic and moxibustion techniques for treating pseudomyopia accompanied by elevated intraocular pressure resulting from cervical spine issues because the application of complementary medicine modalities for managing such vision disorders currently lacks adequate investigations. ⋯ The integrative use of chiropractic and walnut-shell moxibustion demonstrates considerable potential in alleviating symptoms of pseudomyopia, reducing intraocular pressure, and restoring visual function in spine-related pseudomyopia cases.

Elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) has been shown to be an effective form of surgical management for lower-extremity diametaphyseal fractures in pediatric patients, but studies are limited because ESIN treatment for these fractures is relatively uncommon. We sought to determine whether ESIN can be used effectively in the most distal or proximal short-segment forms of these fractures. We queried the electronic medical record system at Johns Hopkins Hospital using Current Procedural Terminology codes for femur and tibia fractures treated with ESIN in patients under 18 years old between January 2015 and October 2022. ⋯ There were no differences in TENs outcomes between the groups (P = .24). Patients with short-segment lower-extremity diametaphyseal fractures treated with ESIN had worse radiographic outcomes but did no worse clinically than patients with distal or proximal third shaft fractures. Consequently, ESIN should be considered a safe and effective surgical management option for pediatric patients with even the most distal or proximal forms of these fractures.

Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) is rare, but fatal; the current widely used treatment is lipid emulsion (LE). The goal of this study was to analyze and review case reports on LE treatment for LAST in pediatric patients. ⋯ Consequently, our findings reveal that LE is effective in treating pediatric LAST.

Endometriosis (EMT) a common gynecological condition in women, an inflammatory disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue on organs and tissues in the pelvis, and is mainly associated with chronic pelvic pain and infertility. As the etiology has not been fully elucidated, current treatment is limited to surgery, hormones and painkillers, with more side effects and difficulty in achieving long-term relief. Oxidative stress manifests itself as an overproduction of reactive oxygen species, which has an integral impact in the pathology of female reproductive disorders. In this review, we evaluate the mechanisms of iron overload-induced oxidative stress and ferroptosis in EMT and their pathophysiological implications. ⋯ In combination with the interpretation of previous studies, it was shown that iron overload is present in the peritoneal fluid, endometriotic lesions, peritoneum and macrophages in the abdominal cavity. However, the programmed cellular ferroptosis associated with iron overload is resisted by endometriotic foci, which is critical to the pathophysiology of EMT with local iron overload and inflammation.

Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality in intensive care units. Sepsis is associated with activation of the coagulation cascade and inflammation. The aim of this study was to identify coagulation-related genes in sepsis that may provide translational potential therapeutic targets. ⋯ The immune infiltration analysis showed that lower expression of C3AR1 was associated with immune response in sepsis and could be an independent predictor of survival status in sepsis patients. Meanwhile, univariate and multivariate Cox analysis showed that C3AR1 had a significant correlation with survival. C3AR1 may become an effective biomarker for worse outcomes in sepsis patients associated with immune and coagulation cascade.
