Therapy resistance in gastric cancer poses ongoing challenges, necessitating the identification of ferroptosis-related genes linked to overall survival for potential therapeutic insights. The purpose of the study was to identify ferroptosis-related genes contributing to therapy resistance in gastric cancer and explore their associations with overall survival. Differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes were identified in therapy-resistant versus therapy-responsive gastric cancer patients. ⋯ DUSP1/NOX4/SREBF1/TNF/KRAS expression was associated with immune cell infiltration. The hub gene-based risk model (DUSP1/TNF/NOX4/LONP1) shows promise as an overall survival predictor in gastric cancer. Ferroptosis-related hub genes represent potential therapeutic targets for overcoming therapy resistance in gastric cancer treatment.

Can the use of antithrombotic drugs be a predictive factor in the early diagnosis of bladder cancer?: A single-center analysis.
Hematuria is the most common symptom of bladder cancer (BCa). It is well-known that the frequency of hematuria increases with the use of antithrombotic drugs (ATDs). We designed our study with the hypothesis that patients using antithrombotic drugs who present with the complaint of hematuria and are subsequently diagnosed with BCa may receive an earlier diagnosis, leading to lower tumor grades and stages. ⋯ The effect of pathology stage and ATD use on predicting tumor grade was found to be significant. The probability of having a high-grade tumor was higher in patients not using ATDs compared to those using ATDs. In light of these results, we can state that the use of ATDs is a positive predictive factor in the early diagnosis of BCa, bringing along the chance of early diagnosis and treatment.

A study on the prevalence and prognosis of progressive pulmonary fibrosis: A retrospective observational study.
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) encompasses a heterogeneous group of more than 200 diffuse parenchymal lung diseases with various clinical courses. Disease progression is one of the most important prognostic factors, and, the definition of progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) has recently been established. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence, risk factors, and prognosis of PPF among patients with non-idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in real-world practice. ⋯ Concomitant therapy of steroids with an immunosuppressants and home oxygen use are risk factors for PPF. PPF itself was significantly associated with high mortality rates. Risk factors for mortality were disease progression, older age, and lower FVC.

Incidence of perioperative complications in COVID-19 survivors: Prospective observational clinical trial.
As long as the COVID-19 pandemic continued, the continuation of elective surgery had been unavoidable. There is still no consensus on the timing of elective surgery in patients who have recovered from COVID-19. The primary aim of this study was to determine the effect of time after COVID-19 infection on perioperative complications. ⋯ The incidence of perioperative complications decreased with increasing time after a positive SARS-CoV-2 infection, but there was no difference in perioperative complications between the groups. As the time between COVID-19 positivity and surgery increased, the need for oxygen support in the postoperative period decreased. It is not possible to share clear data on the timing of operation after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The effect of amantadine treatment on neurological outcome and mortality in mechanically ventilated severe head trauma patients in intensive care unit.
This study aims to investigate the effect of amantadine use on neurological outcomes and mortality in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Glasgow coma score [GCS] between 3 and 8) who have been followed up on mechanical ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU). Data from the hospital's electronic records were retrospectively searched. Patients over 18 years of age, with severe brain trauma (GCS between 3-8), who were treated with endotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation at admission to the ICU, and who were treated with Amantadine hydrochloride at least once in the first week of follow-up were included in the study. ⋯ There was no statistically significant difference among the groups in terms of ICU length of stay, duration of non-ICU hospital stay, and length of hospital stay (P = .222, P = .175, and P = .067, respectively). Amantadine hydrochloride may help improve neurological outcomes in patients with severe TBI. However, further research is needed to investigate this topic.
