Causes and outcomes of non-chemotherapy induced neutropenic fever in hospitalized adults: An observational study.
Neutropenic fever in adults undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment is a medical emergency and has been the focus of numerous studies. However, there is a paucity of data about non-chemotherapy induced neutropenic fever (non-CINF). We retrospectively reviewed 383 adults with neutropenic fever hospitalized at one academic medical center between October 2015 and September 2020 to characterize the frequency, causes, and outcomes of non-CINF. ⋯ Among these, the major causes of neutropenia were hematologic malignancy, infection, and rheumatologic disease, and the major causes of fever were infections. Patients with non-CINF had a higher 30-day mortality than those with chemotherapy induced neutropenic fever (25% vs 13%, P = .01). Non-CINF constituted > 25% of neutropenic fever events in hospitalized adults and was associated with a high mortality rate.

Identification of cuproptosis-related long non-coding RNA and construction of a novel prognostic signature for bladder cancer: An observational study.
Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma (BLCA), a prevalent and lethal cancer, lacks understanding regarding the roles and prognostic value of cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLs), a novel form of cell death induced by copper. We collected RNA-seq data, clinical information, and prognostic data for 414 BLCA samples and 19 matched controls from The Cancer Genome Atlas. Using multivariate and univariate Cox regression analyses, we identified CRLs to create a prognostic signature. ⋯ High-risk patients had worse outcomes, with gene set enrichment analysis revealing enrichment in tumor- and immune-related pathways in the high-risk group. Notably, high-risk patients exhibited enhanced responses to immunotherapy and conventional chemotherapy drugs like sunitinib, paclitaxel, and gemcitabine. The independent prognostic signature variables RC3H1-IT1, SPAG5-AS1, FAM13A-AS1, and GNG12-AS1 predicted the prognoses of BLCA patients and provided a basis for the study of the mechanism of CRLs in BLCA development and progression, and the guidance of clinical treatments for patients with BLCA.

To explore the effect of targeted second-generation sequencing technique to guide clinical diagnosis and medication on the therapeutic effect and prognosis of respiratory tract infection (RTI) in children. During January 2021 to June 2022, 320 children with RTI cured were selected in our hospital as the object of this retrospective study. The control group accepted empirical broad-spectrum antibacterial therapy and the observation group accepted targeted second-generation sequencing technique to guide diagnosis and medication. ⋯ The application of targeted second-generation sequencing technology to guide clinical diagnosis and drug use can elevate the RTIs efficacy and prognosis in childhood. Targeted second-generation sequencing can achieve precise treatment, reduce drug resistance of drug-resistant strains, and improve the efficacy. It has high promotion and application value.

Analysis of clinical features and prognostic factors in Takayasu arteritis involving pulmonary hypertension: A retrospective study.
Multiple takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic nonspecific large to medium vasculitis disease that mainly accumulates the aorta and its branches. Pulmonary vascular disease is often seen as stenosis and occlusion, and patients may show no moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension (PH). This study aims to summarize the clinical characteristics and analysis of prognostic factors in patients with PH caused by TA. ⋯ Electrocardiogram and echocardiogram may suggest an increased right heart load; some patients have elevated serum inflammatory indexes. Characteristic imaging manifestations include widening of the main pulmonary artery, multiple pulmonary segmental and subsegmental stenoses.

As a result of increasing drug resistance, crossover resistance development, prolonged therapy, and the absence of different agents with innovative methods for implementation, the efficacy of recent antileishmanial medications is severely declining. So, it is vital to look for other medications from botanical remedies that have antileishmanial activity. The latex of Euphorbia abyssinica (E abyssinica) and the leaves of Clematis simensis fresen (C simensis) were macerated in methanol (80%). ⋯ C simensis and E abyssinica have a less hemolytic effect on human red blood cells at low concentrations. The outcomes from this investigation demonstrated that the preparation of C simensis and E abyssinica indicated significant antileishmanial activity. Therefore, further in vivo assessment of antileishmanial, cytotoxicity activity and quantitative identification of secondary metabolites are highly recommended.
