The association of depression and sleep disorders in patients with type 1 diabetes in Taiwan.
The association between depression and sleep disorders in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in Taiwan is underexplored. We used a nationwide population-based dataset to evaluate the association of T1DM with these conditions in Taiwan from 2001 to 2019. Patients with T1DM were identified as cases, and 2 control groups were used for comparison: patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and nondiabetic patients. ⋯ When comparing the T1DM and T2DM groups, T1DM patients demonstrated a slightly higher risk of depression (HR 1.11, 95% CI 1.07-1.16) but no significant difference in the risk of sleep disorders compared to T2DM patients. These results were consistent regardless of different ages or sexes. This study demonstrates a significant association between diabetes mellitus and the risk of depression and sleep disorders in a large cohort of Taiwanese patients.

Elevated levels of various cellular inflammatory markers have been observed in patients with endometriosis (EMs). However, a causal relationship between these markers and EMS has not been firmly established. This study aimed to assess the causality between cellular inflammatory markers and the onset of EMS using a bidirectional Mendelian randomization approach. ⋯ Conversely, genetically predicted elevated levels of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-BB) were associated with a reduced risk of EMs (OR = 0.856, 95%CI = 0.742-0.987). Genetically predicted elevations in IL-6 may contribute to an increased risk of EMs, while elevated PDGF-BB levels appear protective, suggesting potential therapeutic targets for EMs. Other systemic inflammatory regulators seem unrelated to EMs risk, potentially representing downstream effects or consequences of shared factors between inflammation and EMs.

While more common in men globally, heart diseases also rank as the leading cause of death among women. This study aimed to examine the relationship between Turkish women's level of knowledge about cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and their health literacy. Data for this descriptive and cross-sectional study were collected online by using Health Literacy Scale and CVD risk factor knowledge level scale from October 2022, to May 2023. ⋯ The study's findings highlight the challenges encountered by women with low socioeconomic status in accessing accurate information. It may be recommended that nurses provide health education and consultancy services to these women on the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases. Also, public education programs should consider socioeconomic and educational levels, focusing on women who encounter difficulties accessing information.

Adherence to iron supplementation during the first year of life infants in Izmir, Turkey.
To determine the prevalence of adherence to iron supplementation and the risk factors for incomplete adherence during the first year of life of infants in Izmir, Turkey. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 511 infants aged 2 to 12 months who presented to the Pediatrics outpatient clinics of Ege University Children's Hospital were included. Mothers (n = 511) who agreed to participate in the study were interviewed face-to-face and a comprehensive questionnaire including questions about the sociodemographic characteristics of the children and the family, and their adherence to iron supplementation was administered. ⋯ In populations with a high prevalence of ID, incomplete adherence to iron supplementation is a serious risk factor for ID/IDA. Although iron supplements are routinely given to infants by the Ministry of Health in Turkey, the prevalence of complete adherence to iron supplementation is low. Therefore, in order to increase the rate of complete adherence to iron supplementation, the iron supplementation status of infants should be reviewed in detail at each health child visit and families should be informed about the importance of supplementation to prevent iron deficiency.

Perceived social support, self-management, perceived stress, and post-traumatic growth in older patients following stroke: Chain mediation analysis.
Stroke is a potentially traumatic event that can lead to both positive changes associated with post-traumatic growth (PTG) and enduring mental distress. This study aimed to investigate the association between perceived stress and PTG among older postsurvivors, as well as to explore the potential mediating role of perceived social support and self-management in this relationship. A cross-sectional study was conducted to recruit 354 older poststroke survivors from 2 tertiary hospitals in Shenyang, China, between January 2022 and October 2023. ⋯ The mediation model showed that perceived stress could both direct influence PTG (Effect = -0.196, 95% CI = [-0.259, -0.129]), and indirectly impact PTG through perceived social support (Effect = -0.096, 95% CI = [-0.157, -0.044]), through self-management (Effect = -0.033, 95% CI = [-0.064, -0.012]), and sequentially through perceived social support and self-management (Effect = -0.007, 95% CI = [-0.017, -0.002]), accounting for 58.9%, 28.8%, 9.9%, and 2.1% of the total effect, respectively. These findings confirmed the mediating roles of perceived social support and self-management between perceived stress and PTG among older poststroke survivors. This provides valuable insights into developing targeted social intervention programs to improve stroke management among older survivors.
