The relationship between aerobic capacity and left atrial size in healthy young males: An observational study.
Aerobic capacity, defined as peak oxygen uptake (peakVO2), is a marker for aerobic fitness and is associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function. The aim of the study was to explore the relation between left atrial (LA) volume index (LAVI) and aerobic capacity in healthy young male adults. One hundred three healthy young male subjects (mean age: 34.2 ± 5.5years) were consecutively included in the study. ⋯ Age was also a significant factor, negatively impacting peakVO2 (r = -0.265, P = .007) and predicted BR (r = -0.282, P = .004). Multivariate analysis revealed that both LAVI and age were independent predictors of peakVO2 and predicted BR. This study suggests that LAVI can be a valuable indicator of aerobic capacity in apparently healthy young males.

The role of oral metformin in preventing and treating age-related macular degeneration: A meta-analysis.
We aimed to perform a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of metformin on age-related macular degeneration. ⋯ Our study revealed no role of metformin in decreasing age-related macular degeneration risk in past or present usage. More RCTs are needed to support our findings in evaluating the actual role of metformin in age-related macular degeneration.

Role of anagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor, in managing type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
No comprehensive meta-analysis has examined and consolidated the effectiveness and safety of anagliptin in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). To bridge this knowledge gap, we undertook this meta-analysis. ⋯ Anagliptin positively affects glucose control and is safe for managing T2D. Its low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-lowering effect warrants further investigation.

Pre-gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes mellitus, and its association with the MTHFR C677T polymorphism.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common condition during pregnancy and is associated with an increased risk of pre-eclampsia. The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene plays a crucial role in folate metabolism and has been implicated in GDM. To investigate the relationship between the MTHFR C677T gene polymorphism and the conditions of GDM and gestational prediabetes in pregnant women. ⋯ However, there were no statistically significant differences in the CC, CT, and TT polymorphisms of the MTHFR C677T gene among pregnant women with or without pre-gestational and GDM. Both fasting blood glucose and 2-hour glucose concentrations during the OGTT, as well as folic acid concentrations, were higher in both the pre-gestational and GDM groups compared to the non-gestational diabetes cohort. However, the analysis of MTHFR C677T polymorphisms revealed no statistically significant differences among the groups, highlighting the necessity for more extensive investigations to gain deeper insights into this relationship.

Postmenopausal giant uterine adenomyoma with adipose metaplasia: A case report and literature review.
Uterine adenomyomas (UAs) are common benign tumors, usually not exceeding 280 g or the weight of the uterus at 12 weeks gestation. Postmenopausal giant UAs of diameter larger than 20 cm are rare, as well as steatosis, but curable by surgical excision. Few cases of postmenopausal giant UAs have been reported. ⋯ Pathology revealed adenomyoma with adipose metaplasia. The patient recovered well and was discharged on postoperative day 7 with satisfactory follow-up.
