Systemic immune-inflammation index and its relation to blood pressure and dyslipidemia in adults: A retrospective study.
High blood pressure (BP) and dyslipidemia are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease mortality. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) has been suggested as a predictive tool to identify those at risk for chronic diseases, however, its use for predicting high BP and dyslipidemia has not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to examine the association between SII and high BP as well as lipid markers. ⋯ Across quartiles of SII, there was a significant trend between higher SII and the odds of hypertension in people with diabetes and those aged ≥65 years. The SII could be an economical predictive measure for identifying individuals at risk of hypertension and some aspects of dyslipidemia. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm this relationship.

The effect of emergency department history on health literacy level and role of digital literacy: An observational study.
In this research, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of emergency department history on health literacy level and the role of digital literacy. A total of 454 participants were subjected to survey including health literacy scale, the digital literacy scale, and the demographic information form. Participants were divided into 2 groups as emergency medicine service (EMS) history (n = 269) and no EMS history (n = 185) groups. ⋯ Digital literacy had significant and positive effect on health literacy for all participants (OR = 0.126; P < .01), no EMS history (OR = 0.059; P < .01) and EMS history group (OR = 0.191; P < .01). People's health literacy skills are positively impacted if they have ever received medical attention from EMS units, regardless of the reason. Furthermore, among those who have used emergency medical services in the past, the impact of digital literacy on health literacy is statistically substantially larger.

To investigate the effectiveness and value of bundled nursing strategies for venous thromboembolism prevention in nonsurgical patients with cerebral hemorrhage, 200 patients who underwent treatment for cerebral hemorrhage in our hospital from January 2023 to July 2023 were chosen as the study subjects. Patients were divided into control group and experimental group according to different treatment methods. For patients in the control group, regular care was used, while for patients in the observation group, bundled care was used for intervention. ⋯ After a period of nursing intervention, the significant statistical difference existed (P < .05) between the control group and the observation group in terms of general information, number of venous thromboembolism risk levels, degree of disease cognition, coagulation function, blood routine, exercise ability, quality of life, and fibrinolysis indicators. In the patient satisfaction score, the satisfaction scores of male and female patients with general care were 0.865 and 0.878, respectively, and the satisfaction scores for bundled care were 0.942 and 0.965, respectively. In conclusion, bundled care can better improve the coagulation status and blood routine indexes of nonsurgical patients with cerebral hemorrhage compared with ordinary care, thus contributing to better prevention of venous thromboembolism in nonsurgical patients with cerebral hemorrhage.

Pre-gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes mellitus, and its association with the MTHFR C677T polymorphism.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common condition during pregnancy and is associated with an increased risk of pre-eclampsia. The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene plays a crucial role in folate metabolism and has been implicated in GDM. To investigate the relationship between the MTHFR C677T gene polymorphism and the conditions of GDM and gestational prediabetes in pregnant women. ⋯ However, there were no statistically significant differences in the CC, CT, and TT polymorphisms of the MTHFR C677T gene among pregnant women with or without pre-gestational and GDM. Both fasting blood glucose and 2-hour glucose concentrations during the OGTT, as well as folic acid concentrations, were higher in both the pre-gestational and GDM groups compared to the non-gestational diabetes cohort. However, the analysis of MTHFR C677T polymorphisms revealed no statistically significant differences among the groups, highlighting the necessity for more extensive investigations to gain deeper insights into this relationship.

Stanniocalcin-2 expression in glioblastoma - A novel prognostic biomarker: An observational study.
The objective of this study was to assess the prognostic relevance of Stanniocalcin-2 (STC2) expression, as determined via immunohistochemistry in tumor tissue, in a cohort of 83 patients diagnosed with glioblastoma who underwent maximal safe surgical resection followed by radiotherapy concurrent with adjuvant temozolomide. STC2 expression levels were categorized using a 3-tiered semiquantitative system: negative expression (level 0-), low expression (level 1+), and high expression (levels 2 + and 3+). Patients were categorized into 2 distinct groups according to their STC2 expression levels: negative STC2 (-/+) and positive STC2 (++/+++). ⋯ Furthermore, elevated STC2 expression in GBM was correlated with several established aggressive clinicopathological characteristics, including advanced age (≥65 years), low ECOG PS (≥2), and isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation negativity. These findings underscore that heightened STC2 expression within the tumor tissue of GBM patients functions as an adverse prognostic marker, correlating with an elevated risk of progression and reduced OS. Therapeutic interventions targeting the AKT-mTOR, ERK1-2, and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways as well as immune checkpoint inhibitors and vascular endothelial growth factor blockade, as well as potential forthcoming antibody-drug conjugates targeting the STC2 molecule, have the potential to broaden the scope of combined treatment strategies.
