Recovery from 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone-induced immunosuppression in A/J mice by treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
We have previously reported that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit lung tumorigenesis induced by the tobacco-specific carcinogen 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) in mice. ⋯ The ability of various nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to inhibit NNK-induced carcinogenesis appears to be directly related to the ability of these drugs to inhibit NNK-induced immunosuppression. Our results suggest that the chemopreventive effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be mediated through the modulation of prostaglandin E2 synthesis.
