[CT-guided marking of pulmonary nodules with a special lung marking wire before video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery - review of 184 cases].
Minimally invasive techniques like video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) are currently the method of choice for the resection of small pulmonary nodules, when they are located in the periphery of the lungs. To guarantee quick and safe intraoperative identification of the nodule, preoperative marking is necessary and sensible. We report about our experiences in 184 markings with a special lung marking wire, which is placed in or around the pulmonary nodule using CT guidance. ⋯ CT-guided marking of pulmonary nodules using a special marking wire followed by thoracoscopic resection is an efficient and safe method for diagnosing suspicious nodules in the periphery of the lung.

In the diagnosis and risk assessment of obesity, both the amount and distribution of adipose tissue compartments are critical factors. We present a hybrid method for the quantitative measurement of human body fat compartments. ⋯ We present an approach that rapidly identifies and quantifies adipose tissue depots of interest. With this method examination and analysis can be performed in a clinically feasible timeframe.

To evaluate the feasibility of diagnosing in statu nascendi mesenteric ischemia using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in a porcine model. All experiments were approved by the animal care committee at the district administration. ⋯ DWI using parallel imaging techniques is feasible for the early detection of acute mesenteric ischemia. The presented DWI results offer encouraging prospects regarding more rapid disease diagnosis.
