Comparative Study
[Occult fractures of the wrist joint: high resolution image magnification roentgen versus MRI].
To compare the diagnostic value of high definition macroradiography and MRI in patients with the suspicion of occult wrist fractures. ⋯ MRI seems to be superior to high resolution macroradiography in the detection of occult scaphoid fractures and thus is recommended in the management of patients with clinically suspected scaphoid fractures not evident on initial plain films.

Purpose of this study is to compare functional MRI parameters with histomorphological markers of tumor microvessel density (MVD) and permeability (vascular endothelial growth factor) and to determine the ultimate value of both approaches by correlation with disease outcome in patients with primary cancer of the uterine cervix. ⋯ It is concluded that 1) the pathophysiological basis for the amplitude A in dynamic MRI is MVD but not VEGF expression; and 2) a functional, dynamic MRI approach may be more suited to assess angiogenic activity in terms of patient survival than current histomorphological-based markers of tumor angiogenesis.

Treatment of acute embolic and thrombotic occlusions of arteries has to be initiated immediately to save the limb at risk. Surgery has been the treatment of choice for the last decades. Percutaneous mechanical methods for thrombectomy and thrombolysis have evolved and offer alternative treatment options, reducing the peri-operative risk. ⋯ Complete removal of the clot can be achieved in 19-49%; adjunctive use of other percutaneous methods (thrombolysis and thrombectomy: 60-80%; PTA and atherectomy: 81-100%) results in primary success rates of 67-100% for recanalization of acutely occluded vessels. Primary indications for percutaneous thrombectomy and mechanical thrombolysis are acute occlusions of peripheral arteries and dialysis fistulas; limited experience exists for the treatment of occlusions of the visceral and pelvic vessels. Percutaneous methods seem promising for treatment of acute pulmonary embolism.

Linear and round shadows are very often revealed on chest radiographs. A rare entity most commonly appearing as branching linear shadows of calcific density involving a limited area of the lung is the so-called disseminated pulmonary ossification (DPO). Only 141 cases have been reported worldwide up to now since the first description. ⋯ In chest radiographs of elderly men the differential diagnosis "DPO" should be given more importance.

To assess the value of bedside sonography in the detection of diaphragmatic paralysis in patients in the intensive care unit. ⋯ Bedside sonography of the diaphragm at the intensive care unit is a reliable tool for diagnosing diaphragmatic paralysis.
