Proton Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Brain Metastases: A Single-Institution Analysis of 370 Patients.
To report the first series of proton stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for the treatment of patients with single or multiple brain metastases, including failure patterns, survival outcomes, and toxicity analysis. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported series of proton SRS for the management of brain metastases. Moderate-dose proton SRS is well tolerated and can achieve good local control outcomes, comparable to those obtained with conventional photon SRS strategies. Although proton SRS remains resource-intensive, future strategies evaluating its selective utility in patients who would benefit most from integral dose reduction should be explored.

Scholarly Impact of Student Participation in Radiation Oncology Research.
To evaluate the rate of non-doctoral student authors publishing in an academic journal over time and to analyze the effects student authors have on the scholarly impact of corresponding authors (CAs) by comparing their respective H-index (Hi). ⋯ Student authorship rates in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics are increasing. The data suggest that student participation in research may benefit both corresponding and student authors. Creating and expanding research programs to integrate research into medical education may enhance students' experience and encourage interest in radiation oncology.

Randomized Controlled TrialA Randomized Phase 2 Trial of Consolidation Chemotherapy After Preoperative Chemoradiation Therapy Versus Chemoradiation Therapy Alone for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer: KCSG CO 14-03.
Preoperative chemoradiation therapy (CRT) followed by total mesorectal excision (TME) in locally advanced rectal cancer is the standard of care. To date, the role of consolidation chemotherapy after CRT has rarely been addressed through randomized trials. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of CRT followed by consolidation chemotherapy compared with CRT alone. ⋯ Consolidation chemotherapy with 2 cycles of capecitabine and oxaliplatin demonstrated a marginal improvement in the downstaging rate. However, a phase 3 trial of this strategy is discouraged because of the high dropout rate and safety issues.

Mentorship Experiences of Early-Career Academic Radiation Oncologists in North America.
Given concerns about attrition and career outcomes of academic radiation oncologists, we sought to gather empirical evidence regarding mentorship experiences. ⋯ These findings suggest a need for academic radiation oncology departments to facilitate mentorship of all junior faculty through deliberate, structured programs, with training of mentors and mentees alike. It is heartening that substantial rates of sponsorship and peer-mentorship use were reported, which may serve as the grounding for further initiatives.

Hypopituitarism After Single-Fraction Pituitary Adenoma Radiosurgery: Dosimetric Analysis Based on Patients Treated Using Contemporary Techniques.
To analyze factors associated with post-stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) hypopituitarism among radiation-naïve patients with pituitary adenomas who underwent single-fraction SRS between 2007 and 2014. ⋯ Hypopituitarism after pituitary adenoma SRS increases in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Reducing the radiation exposure to the identifiable gland to a mean dose < 11.0 Gy whenever feasible may lower the incidence of new hormonal deficits after pituitary adenoma SRS.
