This paper is a report of a study to establish the inter-rater reliability of advanced practice nurse and neurologist neurological assessments which included ratings with the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-Motor Exam. ⋯ These findings are consistent with studies of the inter-rater agreement of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-Motor Exam and support the conduct of neurological assessments by advanced practice nurses.

To evaluate the effectiveness of a protocolized intervention for hospital discharge and follow-up planning for primary care patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. ⋯ The characteristics of patients with this pulmonary disease make it necessary to include them in hospital discharge planning programmes using coordinating nurses.

This paper is a report of an evaluation of the effects of a motivational interviewing smoking cessation programme on smoking rates of pregnant women. ⋯ The success of this programme shows the need for further development and application of similar programmes by nurses and midwives working in primary health care and antenatal settings.

Effectiveness of cutaneous warming systems on temperature control: meta-analysis.
This paper is a report of a meta-analysis to identify the effectiveness of different types of cutaneous warming systems in temperature control for patients undergoing elective surgery. ⋯ Current evidence suggests that circulating water garments offer better temperature control than forced-air warming systems, and both are more effective than passive warming devices.

This paper is a report of a study of Registered Nurses' attitudes and beliefs towards discussing sexuality with patients. ⋯ Education is essential to improve nurses' ability to give patients the holistic care they deserve. Studies are needed to understand fully what mechanisms underlie the barriers that clearly prevent nurses from addressing patients' sexuality.
