A retrospective, multicenter study. ⋯ Since the residual apical translation of the main thoracic curve and the lowest instrumented vertebra more cranial to the last touching vertebra were significantly associated with adding-on, surgeons may need to obtain the maximum reduction of the apical translation of the main thoracic curve and to extend the LIV at least to the LTV to avoid postoperative adding-on.

Extensive validation of the pain disability index in 3 groups of patients with musculoskeletal pain.
A cross-sectional study design was performed. ⋯ The PDI-Dutch language version is internally consistent as a 1-factor structure, and test-retest reliable. Missing items seem high in sexual and professional items. Using the PDI as a 2-factor questionnaire has no additional value and is unreliable.

Review Case Reports
Systematic review of randomized controlled trials of clinical prediction rules for physical therapy in low back pain.
Systematic review. ⋯ There is a lack of good quality randomized controlled trials validating the effects of a clinical prediction rule for LBP. Furthermore, there is no agreement on appropriate methodology for the validation and impact analysis. The evidence for, and development of, the existing prediction rules is generally weak.

Review Case Reports Comparative Study
Comparison of untreated adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with normal controls: a review and statistical analysis of the literature.
Review and statistical analysis of studies evaluating health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in adolescents with untreated adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) using Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) outcomes. ⋯ Pain and self-image tend to be statistically lower among cohorts with AIS than those unaffected. The literature to date suggests that it is only self-image which consistently differs clinically. This should be considered when assessing the possible benefits of surgery.

What is the effect of surgery on the quality of life of the adolescent with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis? A review and statistical analysis of the literature.
Review and statistical analysis of studies evaluating the effect of surgery on the health-related quality of life of adolescents with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, using Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) outcomes. ⋯ Evidence suggests that surgery can lead to clinically important improvement in patient self-image. Surgeons and patients should be aware of the limited evidence for improvements in domains other than self-image after surgery. Surgical decision-making will also be influenced by the natural history of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
