Paulus aegineta: review of spine-related chapters in "Epitomoe medicoe libri septem".
Analysis of chapters related to spinal fractures and dislocations of an important medical book from medieval age. A historical study. ⋯ Paul of Aegina, who was the last representative of the Byzantine School, compiled approximately 1000 years of medical knowledge up to his own era. By taking on this task, he provided a significant link in the transmission of ancient knowledge to later generations. He is also considered as a bridge between Western and Eastern medicines as he conveyed medical knowledge of the ancient era to Islamic authors.

Retrospective review. ⋯ Intraoperative skull-femoral traction can be a safe and effective method to assist correction of severe and rigid scoliosis. It facilitates surgical exposure and pedicle screw insertion. It obviates the need of an anterior release surgery and associated morbidity, thus reducing the hospital stay and costs. It provides a much simpler way to correct the sagittal and coronal imbalance, as well as the pelvic obliquity.

Multicenter, randomized, patient-assessor blind, sham-controlled clinical trial. ⋯ This randomized sham-controlled trial suggests that acupuncture treatment shows better effect on the reduction of the bothersomeness and pain intensity than sham control in participants with cLBP.

Questionnaire survey. ⋯ The majority of Canadian spine surgeons were open to an NPC model of care to assess and triage nonurgent or emergent low back-related complaints. Clinical trials to establish the effectiveness and acceptance of an NPC model of care by all stakeholders are urgently needed.
