A retrospective cohort study with chart review. ⋯ A large cohort of ACDF patients with more than 2 years of follow-up had reoperations for nonunion rates significantly lower than reported in the literature for radiographical nonunions. We think our data add to the literature an important parameter (reoperations for nonunion rates) and provide useful information for patients, spine surgeons, and health care payers.

Basic science study measuring anatomical features of the cervical and lumbar spine in rat with normalized comparison with the human. ⋯ The similar spinal morphology in the axial plane between rats and humans supports using the rat spine as an appropriate surrogate for modeling axial and shear loading of the human spine.

A model of disc degeneration adjacent to a lumbar fusion in osteoporotic rats. ⋯ ALN effectively alleviated ASDD post-PLF in ovariectomized rats. These data indicate that ALN can be used as a potential therapeutic agent to attenuate ASDD progression in osteoporosis.
