Multi-Level 3D Printing Implant For Reconstructing Cervical Spine With Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.
MINI: A 3D printing technology is proposed for reconstructing multilevel cervical spine (C2-C4) after resection of metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma. The personalized porous implant printed in Ti6AL4V provided excellent physicochemical properties and biological performance, including biocompatibility, osteogenic activity, and bone ingrowth effect. ⋯ 5.

MINI: Bone scan remains the modality of choice for the screening of bone metastases. This study demonstrated the diagnostic value of bone scan in detecting bone metastases limited to the cervical spine in oncological patients remains uncertain due to the moderately high false-negative diagnostic rate.

Waterless Hand Rub versus Traditional Hand Scrub Methods for Preventing the Surgical-Site Infection in Orthopaedic Surgery.
MINI: Fourteen hundred consecutive patients were investigated for evaluating the utility of waterless hand rub before orthopaedic surgery. The risk in the surgical site infection incidence was the same, but costs of liquids used for hand hygiene were cheaper and the hand hygiene time was shorter for waterless protocol, compared with traditional hand scrub.

MINI: The time trend for the number of minimally invasive spine surgery articles showed a significant increase over time with an average of 93.23 articles per year. Among all related journals, Spine published the largest number of articles in minimally invasive spine surgery research and was the most popular one in the top five countries.

MINI: Trends in lumbar spinal stenosis surgery are largely unknown outside of the United States. This population-based health record linkage study revealed that complex fusion surgery had a four-fold increase from 2003-2013 in Australia. This surgical procedure increased the risk of complications and resource use compared with decompression surgery alone.
