Overexpression of SIRT1 promotes high glucose-attenuated corneal epithelial wound healing via p53 regulation of the IGFBP3/IGF-1R/AKT pathway.
To investigate how Sirtuin (silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog) 1 (SIRT1) promotes high glucose-attenuated corneal epithelial wound healing. ⋯ The molecular mechanism by which SIRT1 promotes corneal epithelial wound healing was involved in an enhancement of the IGFBP3/IGF-1/AKT pathway through the deacetylation of p53. This study also suggests that SIRT1 has a protective role in the pathogenesis of diabetic keratopathy.

Retinal ganglion cell damage in an experimental rodent model of blast-mediated traumatic brain injury.
To evaluate retina and optic nerve damage following experimental blast injury. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that decrements in retinal ganglion cell responses can be detected after blast injury using noninvasive functional and structural tests. These objective responses may serve as surrogate tests for higher CNS functions following traumatic brain injury that are difficult to quantify.

Comparative StudyPreclinical study of Ublituximab, a Glycoengineered anti-human CD20 antibody, in murine models of primary cerebral and intraocular B-cell lymphomas.
Primary cerebral lymphoma (PCL) and primary intraocular lymphoma (PIOL) belong to the systemic diffuse large B-cell lymphoma family and are characterized by the presence of CD20(+) lymphoma B cells in the brain or the eye. These highly aggressive malignancies have a poor prognosis and no specific therapy. The presence of effector immune cells in the damaged brain and vitreous suggests that treatment with anti-human CD20 (hCD20) monoclonal antibodies might be effective. We developed murine models of PCL and PIOL to assess the intracerebral and intraocular antitumor effect of ublituximab, a promising glycoengineered anti-hCD20 mAb with a high affinity for FcγRIIIa (CD16) receptors. ⋯ These in vivo results confirm the potential of the glycoengineered anti-hCD20 mAb ublituximab as an innovative therapeutic approach to treat primary central nervous system lymphoma and other B-cell lymphomas.

Structural and functional effects of hemiretinal endodiathermy axotomy in cynomolgus macaques.
Outer retinal injury has been well described in glaucoma. To better understand the source of this injury, we wanted to develop a reliable model of partial retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axotomy. ⋯ Unlike experimental glaucoma, hemiretinal endodiathermy axotomy (HEA) of the RGCs produces no apparent anatomic, functional, or blood flow effects on the outer retina and choroid.

TREM-2 promotes host resistance against Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection by suppressing corneal inflammation via a PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
To explore the role of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM-2) in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) keratitis. ⋯ TREM-2 promoted host resistance to PA infection by suppressing corneal inflammation via activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway.
