Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyOperative Results and Oncologic Outcomes of Associating Liver Partition and Portal Vein Ligation for Staged Hepatectomy (ALPPS) Versus Two-Stage Hepatectomy (TSH) in Patients with Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) has recently emerged as a treatment choice for patients with colorectal liver metastases (CLM) and inadequate future liver remnant (FLR). The aim of this study was to define the results of ALPPS compared with two-stage hepatectomy (TSH) for patients with CLM. ⋯ While ALPPS may be a suitable approach for patients, the higher morbidity and mortality should be considered when determining the operative approach for patients with extensive CLM.

Review Meta AnalysisMinimally Invasive Pancreaticoduodenectomy: What is the Best "Choice"? A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis of Non-randomized Comparative Studies.
Many mini-invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MIPD) techniques have been reported, but their advantages with respect to an open technique (OPD) and with respect to each other are unclear. ⋯ The safest MIPDs are those involving a robotic system which seems to have a promising role in ameliorating the outcomes of OPD, especially when compared to a laparoscopic approach.

External Validation of a Tube Thoracostomy Complication Classification System.
Tube thoracostomy (TT) is a commonly performed procedure which is associated with significant complication rates. Currently, there is no validated taxonomy to classify and compare TT complications across different populations. This study aims to validate such TT complication taxonomy in a cohort of South African trauma patients. ⋯ Single Institution Retrospective review.

Diagnostic and Prognostic Role of 18-FDG PET/CT in the Management of Resectable Biliary Tract Cancer.
Role of 18-FDG PET/CT had been well established in other more prevalent malignancies such as colorectal and lung cancer; however, this is not as well defined in cholangiocarcinoma. Literature focusing on the prognostic values of preoperative PET/CT for resectable cholangiocarcinoma is scarce. ⋯ PET/CT is a reliable imaging modality for metastatic lymph node detection in cholangiocarcinoma. Tumour SUV-max is an independent factor for oncological outcomes in patients with resectable disease. For patients who have TNM stage I or II cholangiocarcinoma, tumour SUV-max over 8 is associated with significantly inferior disease-free and overall survival even after curative resection.

The Met Needs for Pediatric Surgical Conditions in Sierra Leone: Estimating the Gap.
In low- and middle-income countries, there is a gap between the need for surgery and its equitable provision, and a lack of proxy indicators to estimate this gap. Sierra Leone is a West African country with close to three million children. It is unknown to what extent the surgical needs of these children are met. ⋯ The rate of pediatric surgery in Sierra Leone was very low, and inguinal hernia was the single most common procedure noted among children in Sierra Leone.
