Review Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Total hip arthroplasty versus hemiarthroplasty for displaced femoral neck fractures in the healthy elderly: a meta-analysis and systematic review of randomized trials.
Displaced femoral neck fractures in healthy elderly patients have traditionally been managed with hemiarthroplasty (HA). Recent data suggest that total hip arthroplasty (THA) may be a better alternative. ⋯ Total hip arthroplasty for displaced femoral neck fractures in the fit elderly may lead to higher patient-based outcomes but has higher dislocation rates compared with hemiarthroplasty. Further high-quality randomized clinical trails are needed to provide robust evidence and to definitively answer this clinical question.

This study reports radiographic and clinical treatment outcomes of tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) used for two-stage revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of periprosthetic infection. ⋯ TTO can be a useful extensile surgical approach for treatment of infected TKA with satisfactory clinical and radiographic outcomes.

The treatment of symptomatic Schwannoma is surgical excision. However, in the case of major peripheral nerves with motor function, there are concerns including neurological complications following surgery. This study was designed to evaluate the surgical outcome of Schwannomas originating from major peripheral nerves of the lower limb. Additionally, we sought to find out the predictable factors for permanent neurological deficits. ⋯ In the majority of cases, Schwannomas in the lower limb can be excised with acceptable risk for neurological deficits. However, meticulous dissection is required in large-sized Schwannomas because these tumours seem to have a higher frequency of fascicular injury during dissection.
