Open reduction in displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures entails a high rate of wound healing deficits and infections as well as an uncertain outcome, which leads to remaining ambiguity in treatment preferences. ⋯ Given the extended lateral approach as the preferred treatment option, we found minimally invasive techniques and primary arthrodesis of the lower ankle joint play a minor role in treating intra-articular calcaneal fractures in Germany. Ninety percent of our respondents stated less than 5 % of patients required re-operations due to infections and wound healing deficits. Level of Evidence Level V, expert opinion.

To investigate the treatment of acetabular anterior column fractures using a two-incision minimally invasive (TIMI) approach and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique using a preshaped 3D plate. ⋯ The TIMI approach is an alternative to the ilioinguinal approach for anterior column acetabular fracture treatment, especially for fractures involving the dome and quadrilateral plate that are feasible for application of MIPO techniques. The technique of preshaping the 3D plate makes the plate better accommodated to the fracture surface and easier to apply in MIPO procedures. All dissection was between the anatomical interval, which allowed less soft tissue injury and related complications, and caused less bleeding. The fracture types in our case series were relatively simple, and follow-up time was short; more clinical trials are necessary for evaluation of middle- and late-term results.

A certified list of all operative cases performed within a six month period is required of surgeons by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) as a prerequisite to taking the Part II Oral Examination. Using the data on these cases collected and maintained by ABOS, this study assessed the influence of prior fellowship training in adult reconstruction on the volume and surgeon-reported complication rate of knee joint arthroplasty cases over time. ⋯ 4.
