Monitored anesthesia care by registered respiratory therapists during cataract surgery: an update.
To reevaluate the safety and practicality of registered respiratory therapists (RRTs) providing monitored anesthesia care during cataract surgery. ⋯ We have demonstrated that allowing RRTs to provide monitored anesthesia care during cataract surgery with an anesthesiologist available as required seems to be both safe (no serious medical complications in 15,440 cases) and practical (anesthesiology intervention rate of 2.6%).

To determine the rate of intentional and unintentional nonadherence in glaucoma patients and to identify associations between adherence behavior and patients' beliefs. ⋯ Strategies aimed at improving adherence in glaucoma patients need to address both intentional and unintentional dimensions. Interventions focused on eliciting and addressing patients' beliefs and concerns about their eye drops require evaluation.

To investigate the frequency of sneezing among patients receiving intravenous sedation and periocular local anesthetic for oculoplastic procedures in a single center. To identify potential risk factors involved. ⋯ Propofol-based intravenous sedation, in combination with periocular local anesthetic injections, induces sneezing in approximately one sixth of general oculoplastic cases. Male gender, a history of photic sneezing, bilateral or upper eyelid infiltration, deep sedation, and the concurrent administration of midazolam all increased the risk, whereas adjunctive opioid use reduced the risk.
