Statins are lipid-lowering agents with anti-inflammatory effects. Data surrounding the benefits of statins in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are conflicting. We sought to better understand the impact of statins in the context of COVID-19-related inflammation. ⋯ Prior-statin use is associated with improved outcomes and lower inflammation as measured by suPAR levels in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.

This narrative review takes a personal approach in detailing the progression of cognitive decline in a loved one, and the measures taken to care for the patient. The author provides suggestions for a compassionate care plan and advice for clinicians helpful to both patient and caregiver.

Many individuals experience long COVID after SARS-CoV-2 infection. As microbiota can influence health, it may change with COVID-19. This study investigated differences in oral microbiota between COVID-19 patients with and without long COVID. ⋯ There were distinct variations in oral microbiota between COVID-19 patients with and without long COVID. Changes in oral microbiota may indicate long COVID.
