Functional Outcomes and Delayed Cerebral Ischemia Following Nonperimesencephalic Angiogram-Negative Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Similar to Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.
The angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) literature includes patients with perimesencephalic hemorrhage, which is recognized to have a much better outcome than aneurysmal SAH. ⋯ Although the risk of vasospasm may be lower, patients with NPAN-SAH are equally associated with delayed cerebral ischemia, poor outcome, and death as compared to patients with aneurysmal SAH. Furthers studies may be necessary to further clarify these findings.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks increase postoperative risk for complication, likelihood of reoperation, and costs. ⋯ PCC is safe for use as a dural substitute and effective as a dural sealant. The novel, self-adhering combination of a polyethylene glycol-based sealant and a collagen pad may offer unique benefits to the advancement of duraplasty.

Targeted Embolization of Aneurysms Associated With Brain Arteriovenous Malformations at High Risk for Surgical Resection: A Case-Control Study.
High-risk components of brain arteriovenous malformations (BAVMs) can be targeted to reduce the risk of lesion rupture. ⋯ For BAVMs at high risk for surgical resection, TAE can be performed safely and effectively. Patients treated with TAE had better outcomes than matched patients undergoing other combinations of treatment. TAE can be considered for BAVMs with high operative risk prior to radiosurgery or when no other treatment options are available.

Seizure Outcomes in Occipital Lobe and Posterior Quadrant Epilepsy Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Occipital lobe epilepsy (OLE) is an uncommon but debilitating focal epilepsy syndrome with seizures often refractory to medical management. While surgical resection has proven a viable treatment, previous studies examining postoperative seizure freedom rates are limited by small sample size and patient heterogeneity, thus exhibiting significant variability in their results. ⋯ Surgical resection for OLE is associated with favorable outcomes with nearly two-thirds of patients achieving postoperative seizure freedom. However, patients must be counseled regarding the risk of visual decline following surgery.
