High frequency ultrasound is a valuable tool for assessing soft tissue injuries about the shoulder. It has advantages over other imaging modalities including relatively low cost, portability, and dynamic real-time visualization. It has a high sensitivity for identifying tendon degeneration, bursitis, and rotator cuff tears. ⋯ A detailed knowledge of shoulder anatomy and transducer positioning is required for obtaining adequate diagnostic value from ultrasound. Fasciculations are a marker for the diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and reflect increased lower motor neuron (LMN) excitability. ⋯ Our results favour increased excitability of LMNs when affected by the disease process in ALS. We found that some fasciculations originating in these neurons in ALS are susceptible to modulation by sensory input. Muscle Nerve 59:688-693, 2019.

Statins reduce cardiovascular disease risk and are generally well tolerated, yet up to 0.5% of statin-treated patients develop incapacitating muscle symptoms including rhabdomyolysis. Our objective was to identify clinical factors related to statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS). ⋯ Careful medical monitoring of statin-treated patients with the associated coexisting conditions may ultimately reduce muscle symptoms and lead to improved compliance.
