Successful Reinnervation of the Diaphragm After Intercostal to Phrenic Nerve Neurotization in Patients With High Spinal Cord Injury.
Our objective in this study was to extend diaphragmatic pacing therapy to include paraplegic patients with high cervical spinal cord injuries between C3 and C5. ⋯ From this study, intercostal to phrenic nerve transfer seems to be a promising approach in reducing or eliminating ventilator support in patients with C3 to C5 high spinal cord injury.

Case ReportsAnterolateral Thigh Flap for Reconstruction in Postburn Axillary Contractures.
Reconstruction of postburn axillary contractures is difficult and particularly challenging without healthy adjacent soft tissue for axillary scar resurfacing. In this case, a free soft-tissue transfer is among the best treatment options. Here, we describe our experience with free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap for reconstruction in postburn axillary contractures. ⋯ For postburn axillary contractures without healthy adjacent soft tissue for scar resurfacing, ALT flap reconstruction represents a suitable treatment option. It allows simultaneous surgery on both the donor and recipient sites, without the need to change the patient's position. Furthermore, the ALT flap provides sufficient soft tissue and blood flow for reconstruction, leading to satisfactory functional outcomes.

Comparative StudyComparison of Donor Site Drainage Duration and Seroma Rate Between Latissimus Dorsi Musculocutaneous Flaps and Thoracodorsal Artery Perforator Flaps.
Donor site seroma formation and prolonged drainage duration are common complications of using latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous (LDMC) flaps. The present retrospective study aimed to investigate the effect of types of back flap harvest on drainage duration and seroma formation rates. ⋯ The type of back flap harvest used significantly affected drainage duration and seroma formation rate in the present study. Lumbar fat extension with the use of a LDMC flap for breast reconstruction may lead to seroma formation. Thoracodorsal artery perforator flaps are associated with minimal risks of seroma formation and significantly shortened drainage duration compared with LDMC flaps.
