The tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TTTG) distance is used to assess patellofemoral instability (PFI) and the likelihood of the development of patellofemoral disorders. The current gold standard in the assessment of the TTTG is computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The current image software used for viewing these CT images does not allow for easy assessment of the TTTG. ⋯ This study demonstrates that the TTTG can be simply and quickly assessed using readily available and affordable stationery, without the need for expensive or complex secondary analysis software. This could allow for the assessment of PFI in the outpatient clinic whilst the patient is present, offering valuable assistance to the orthopaedic surgeon in clinical decision making.

The COVID-19 pandemic produced unprecedented challenges to healthcare systems. These challenges were amplified in the setting of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for large vessel occlusion strokes given the time-sensitive nature of the procedure. ⋯ Despite the myriad of challenges presented by the pandemic, service provision at the primary Irish ESC, and the referring hospitals, has proven to be robust. Procedural time metrics were maintained whilst the expected reduction in number of EVTs performed did not materialise, there actually being a significant increase in number of EVTs performed in the pandemic's second year.

Under Sect. 15 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act 2018, Ireland has banned alcohol advertising in or on the sports area during a sports event, except for branded clothing. The restrictions commenced on 12th November 2021, but concerns have been raised that alcohol branding continues to feature in the now-prohibited sporting area. ⋯ Alcohol branding continued to feature in or on the sporting area after the commencement of Sect. 15 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act. Clarification is needed over whether the promotion of zero-alcohol products and alibi marketing is compatible with Sect. 15 of the Act.

The timely assessment of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) marking chronic heart failure risk in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) helps to reduce patients' mortality. ⋯ The wrist pulse detection technology employed in this study is useful for assessing the cardiac function of patients with CHD.

Gene regulation of IL-6 is characterized by the presence of inflammatory cytokines, bacterial products, viral infection, and activation of the diacylglycerol-, cyclic AMP-, or Ca + + -activated signal transduction pathways. ⋯ Changes in periodontal indices and IL-6 levels that are statistically significant over time indicate that non-surgical treatment is effective, and IL-6 can be regarded as a potent disease activity marker.
